dasox24
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 08:22 AM) Des Moines sports radio reporting that Phillip Fulmer has shown serious interest in the Iowa State opening. That'd be weird. I wonder how true that really is... Most of what I've heard since it was announced Phil would be let go is that he would like to coach again, but the opportunity would have to be "special" because of what he's used to at Tennessee (facilities, recruiting budget, etc). Clemson was really the only open job this off-season that met his standards. Now, I'm not saying it's not possible for Phil to end up at Iowa State, but it would surprise the hell out of me. Also, though Tennessee recruits nationally, he really has no midwest ties. He grew up in Tennessee, played football at Tennessee, and has coached at Tennessee for the last 33 years. He's a southern guy. If I'm Iowa State, I'm finding a guy who has significant ties to Iowa/Illinois/Ohio, etc.

Jimbo's Drinker
why is it weird, only the AD knows who is being looked at. Until they start actually interviewing it is complete and utter speculation.
Heads22
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) why is it weird, only the AD knows who is being looked at. Until they start actually interviewing it is complete and utter speculation. The latest was that Pollard had already left Atlanta, which means the interviewing could be done by now. Near as I can tell, this is every name connected with the opening: Dave Bailiff, Rice Head Coach Gary Barnett, former Colorado Head Coach Terry Bowden, former Auburn Head Coach Troy Calhoun, Air Force Head Coach Bill Cubit, Western Michigan Head Coach Joe DeForest, Oklahoma State Associate Head Coach Bobby Elliott, former San Diego State Defensive Coordinator Phillip Fulmer, former Tennessee Head Coach Todd Graham, Tulsa Head Coach Pat Hill, Fresno State Head Coach Steve Loney, St. Louis Rams Offensive Line Coach Gus Malzahn, Tulsa Offensive Coordinator Glen Mason, former Minnesota Head Coach Jay Norvell, Oklahoma Offensive Coordinator Gary Patterson, TCU Head Coach Mike Stoops, Arizona Head Coach Tommy Tuberville, former Auburn Head Coach Brent Venables, Oklahoma Defensive Coordinator
kjshoe04
Illinois St. hired Brock Spack, defensive coordinator at Purdue, to be the new head football coach.
Brian
Sad story. Head, you know him? http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/with-no-nfl-...his-death-21431
Heads22
Not personally. I know he had some drug issues (ganja) but I don't know if anyone thought he had a realistic shot at pro football besides himself. It's still really sad. We've already lost two starting runningbacks from the 2000s to premature death.

Chisoxfn
That doesn't pass the sniff test. Sure its a bigger conference, but you can do a s***load better than ISU. It would be a tremendous hire though.

Heads22
Rhoads was an assistant under McCarney. Tuberville wanted to tap him as Auburn's DC, but Rhoads turned him down to stay at Pitt when Tuberville hired Chizik. I have no strong feelings one way or another, to be honest, but our best player said he's staying, so that's nice. Not a bad hire, not a great hire. Rhoads was considered a pretty good defensive coordinator. Early in the year, Auburn's D didn't miss a beat from last year after losing Muschamp. Once the offense really hit the tank and after some injuries, they just got wore down. Not sure what he will do as a HC, but he was pretty well respected at Pitt before coming to Auburn this year. Who was the NFL guy you were wanting? The link you provided is dead.
