Mr. Showtime
SouthTown: Setback for Wunsch Injured pitcher Kelly Wunsch has been temporarily shut down from throwing. The left-hander (0-0, 1.15 ERA in 22 appearances) has been on the disabled list since June 11 with a strained left side. He suffered the injury while facing San Francisco's Barry Bonds in an interleague game. Wunsch has been at Triple-A Charlotte since June 27, waiting to begin his rehab assignment. He was still having pain when he threw on the side, however, so an MRI was done. Details of those results were not available, but Wunsch is out of action for the time being. Big Irish
Well, We couldn't have thought we would make it through the season w/out one of our best pitchers going down. Seems to be a trend w/the Sox. We need to really make a couple of moves now to get the pen to championship caliber.
elrockinMT
That's a shame for Kelly. I was hoping we might have him back on the team soon.
Guest hotsoxchick1
we should have dumped him when we had the chance...........geez us........i like kelly and all but hes been pretty much worthless the past couple of seasons............time to cut payroll.......... DonkeyKongerko
Yeah time to cut payroll....and maybe get a pitcher who will face more than one batter per game. I think it's more JM is totally paralyzed by his fears of ever seeing Kelly face a right-handed batter.
IlliniKrush
Well f*** We need to acquire a quality bullpen arm, we only have one setup guy as of right now, that's not going to get it done. I'm still in favor of trading Lee to LA for Mota or Shuey and possibly a prospect or something.

Guest hotsoxchick1
Cut payroll? Doesn't Kelly only make like $500k? Kelly Wunsch CHW $575,000 (+possible $100,000) ....theres enough there to either sign one of our guys longer or get someone in here who can do the job that kelly isnt doing......... quickman
Kelly was on live last night on the score with J Hood. He believes he will be back the third week of July. Not all is lost here. JM could start using Sanders for the one damn batter he uses wunch anyway. I think before we go out and get another lefty we need to win against the s***ty teams. I think we have bigger problems than Wunch.

If gordon closes, we have starter...marte...gordon if the starter goes 7. That won't happen everday and you can't use those guys every day. And no i don't want Koch in setup either, i want someone else. If he can't do it in the 9th what makes you think he'll do it in the 8th. We need another quality arm down there. The second half will be long and we have already overused guys IMO.

SuperSteve
If we traded Carlos to LA, we wouldn't get any prospects back. Their farm system is not exactly full of prospects. They don't have the number of prospects, and would probably want some from us.

Ask LaTroy Hawkins about the difference between closing and setting up. As a closer, I believe LaTroy had a 5.97 ERA, a 1.96 WHIP, and like 8 or 9 blown saves with a ton of walks. As a setup man last year, his ERA was like 2.13, his WHIP under 1.00, and he had to have had 20 or 30 holds. Just an observation.
Big Irish
It takes a different mind set to close and you have to be confident in your best pitch all the time because as a closer you have to rely on that one pitch more times then not. Koch is not at all confident that he can get guys out with his fastball right now (velocity not there ) so he is resorting to his breaking stuff. That is fine when he has his fast ball working but wheb it is not he is walking guys that are just not swinging at the breaking stuff and then sitting dead red on the fastball. That is his problem right now.
