I think it is a much better idea than having something that looks like the cesspool the Brian Anderson thread got turned into.

Since BA made the top 50, I assume that all the current starters made the top 50. Wait for the Crede thread, and it will be really wild if Fields is ahead of him. :lolhitting

Well then you're f***ed in the Heads22.

And I get the idea of the list... my favorite was AJ Pierzynski. He, however, has been a regular starter for years and a key member of the 05 Championship team, not a backup who never lived up to his hype. Might as well put Joe Borchard...

I mean, he even compares him to Aaron Rowand, who had better be #1 on his list if emulating Rowand was worthy of #2 or else it's just stupid.

EDIT: This does not mean I dislike Alex, he and I get along great, but BA #2 I had to call that out.

I can tell you all one thing, I'm sure not gaining any fans in this thread. :lolhitting

I'll drop it.

Although Sonic, I think you can find better words than "retarded" to use on the message boards. What is this, 2nd grade recess?

Exactly! We can't have anybody saying anything insulting now can we?

You guys are nutso. If he likes Brian Anderson and respects him for going to college and he's his No. 2 favorite, that's great. The guy likes Brian Anderson. I put Gary Peters No. 2 I guess. I've already forgotten my list. So my No. 2 got GP on the list. I liked him cause I was a litte kid who liked his pitching motion and hitting ability. The guy loves BA. So what if he put him No. 2. Somebody on here may have put Wayne Nordhagen who was a stiff. If they love Wayne they love Wayne more power to 'em. s*** somebody might like BA's batting stance and put him on their list as a favorite.

Iam going to withhold any judgements on the list because it is early. But so far Soxtalk is letting me down with their picks.I mean, shouldnt your favorite players be the ones that helped you win the most?

Seeing that we've won 1 World Series in the last 90 years that list will be small.

It doesnt have to be players that took us the farthest. There were alot of wins in the past 90 years even if there wasnt championships.

The list asks for favorites, not the best. It's like the all star voting.... except for Sox players. :P

Harry Chappas is one of my all time favs because the guy was 5 feet 3 inches tall. Any time he did anything on the field it was entertaining.

This whole concept is rather stupid IMO because all it takes is one person to love the player and he is top 50 so I don't know why people are putting so much thought into the argument. No one is going to agree with the list because people like players for different reasons.

Read the list, laugh at how terrible it is going to be, and move on.

I'm not certain why you think it takes just one person for a player to make the final list. It actually took three, and BA was on four. If more people had taken the time to vote, perhaps it would have taken even more appearances on lists. But as soon as we picked favorite it generally eliminates guys you did not see play. So Jackson et. al. are not listed.

It's also rather insulting to Knight who put in weeks of work compiling this and putting it together. This is the third or fourth list he has done and every one has been very popular.

If more Soxtalkers had taken the time to make a list maybe a player at #2 on someones list wouldn't be weighted so heavily. And no I didn't submit a list either. I've followed the Sox longer than most of you have been alive and to single out favorites over a 40 year period made me think I'd submit the list then go "Oh damn I forgot" insert players name. Once you're on the Sox you become my favorite unless you show me you don't enjoy being a Sox ( Cabrera, David Wells).

In all these lists, I have never seen someone on fewer lists higher ranked then someone on more lists. It seems that the first sort is number of lists, then the tie breaker is higher ranked. But looking at the tie breaker for players on 4 lists, BA with Heads placing him #2, was a few players behind Wilbur Wood whose highest ranking was #3 on mine. In fact Wood was ahead of The Milkman who had a #1 ranking. So just one person ranking some very high does not make as much of a difference then people are thinking.

BA 4 lists highest #2

Pretty sure BA was on my list. I've always felt he got a raw deal after 2006. His .225 avg while batting 9th in the order was not even close to being the reason we missed the playoffs that year and he is the best defensive centerfielder the Sox have had in recent years.

I think it is pretty apparent that this list will be loaded with recent players since many members of this site are in their 20s. The farthest my memories of Sox players go back is early 90s and that is stretching it because I didn't really get into the Sox until the late 90s.

BA and AB, both on the list, are a great contrast. For those that prize on field accomplishments, they probably wonder why AB is not higher. For those that place a high value on off the field factors, they are scratching their heads and wondering why someone who basically was an expensive, ungrateful, whore in a Sox uniform, could even make the list.

what a weak list so far.

Says the guy who never sent in a list.

This is "favorite", not "best".

Willie Harris could be #5 for all you know.

People love the pinch hitter and utility infielder.

They love the underdog.
