fathom
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 03:37 AM) If Cox had held him up, this board with exploded with anger. Absolutely, after a weird bounce like that, it would have. What are you talking about? Thome is slower than s*** now. That run means nothing in the sense of Konerko's run meaning more. Wanne
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) It should be 2nd and 3rd with one out. Yet gramps at third gets confused and sends him. Nice job. bases loaded one out......
Soxbadger
The problem with what Cox did wasnt that he started to wave him around, its that he ran up the line so that he couldnt stop Thome once he saw that Joyce got the ball in quickly. If he stays in front of Thome he can put the stop sign up and Thome can get back into third. For some reason he just runs into left field and he cant do anything but watch. Absolutely, after a weird bounce like that, it would have. Are you kidding, maybe if it was anyone besides Thome/Konerko/Pieryznski you send the guy home but that wasnt even close, it was pathetically bad. santo=dorf
If we do not get walked more than 5 times by Dice-K, I'll be so pissed at our guys. Perhaps AJ will actually see more than 2 pitches in an at-bat
southsideirish71
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) If Cox had held him up, this board would have exploded with anger. Absolutely, after a weird bounce like that, it would have. Sure we would of all exploded with anger as he sent an old man running around 3rd with the ball in the hand of the outfielder. Who happens to have a good arm. That makes sense.

Princess Dye
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) What are you talking about? Thome is slower than s*** now. That run means nothing in the sense of Konerko's run meaning more. My argument isnt that Cox did the right thing--- it's that this board is quick to pounce either way. If he's held up and then we dont score in the inning, Cox is attacked for conservatism. Edited August 8, 2008 by Princess Dye
Dick Allen
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) This might sound a bit extreme to some people, but IMO he seriously has hurt this team and the team's chances this year. He seriously needs to be fired. He's been bad both ways. Didn't he hold up Cabrera the other day but he went through the stop sign and basically scored without a play? If he stays in front of Thome he can put the stop sign up and Thome can get back into third. For some reason he just runs into left field and he cant do anything but watch. I saw that as well, which makes him even worse at his job.
nitetrain8601
Any runner should've been sent home. The thing is, we didn't pinch run for Thome. We absolutely should have. The bounce when Raburn picked it up dictated such.

If he's held up and then we dont score in the inning, Cox is attacked for conservatism. When the runner is thrown out by 20 or 30 feet, the coach didn't do the right thing. Especially considering the score of the game and the situation. Edited August 8, 2008 by Dick Allen

justBLAZE
Isn't it second time Cox sends someone (Thome?) and runners is out by a mile? Still will have him over last year.

LOL yeah, I saw that. Jeff Cox has no business on this team.

I have no problem with Thome staying in for the chance he hits in the 9th.

Princess Dye
Again, a few people are making my argument into something different. Not defending Cox's choice, but more just saying... if the ball takes that carom, 99 out of 100 3rd base coaches will have an arm windmilling. that's pretty much what their job is when a carom like that happens. like it or not. thats why i'm saying, don't say his move is right, but also temper outrage b/c it will happen again. with any 3rd base coach.
