The last couple of outings for both Poreda and Ely have been absolutely rock solid. Can't wait to see what happens with Poreda come September... Always nice seeing Shelby do well. He's had himself quite a season. Let's hope he keeps it up. And Retherford went hitless for what seems like the 1st time in forever. Guess it had to happen sooner or later, lol.

Interesting that Charlotte is playing the Red Sox AAA affiliate, while we play the Red Sox.

Sergio Miranda: hitting .469 his last 10 games, now hitting .310 on the season with an OBP approaching .400, and has as many walks as strikeouts. Meanwhile, Escobar is hitting .229, and yet continues to start at SS and lead off every game (Miranda playing a lot of 2B, 3B, DH).

I doubt that we're as high on Miranda as Escobar. Also, Escobar is a few years younger I think

I think that Poreda is starting to figure out the Southern League. It'll be interesting to see if he can continue this trend:

Month IP ERA AVG K/9 BB/9 GO/AO

June 18.0 5.00 .303 0.88 0.22 0.57

July 33.2 3.48 .250 0.65 0.39 1.88

Aug 14.0 1.29 .176 1.21 0.00 2.13

I sure hope so.

I wonder if this means his breaking/offspeed stuff is developing?

It has been a continuous improvement process. Several things have improved: 1) he had a break through (of sorts) with his change when he made a slight adjustment to his grip; 2) Better command of slider (fewer hangers/more in the dirt); 3) Better FB command (more first pitch strikes)

He's still throwing about 70% FB.
