DonkeyKongerko
Some nutjob threw a cherry bomb from the upper deck in Oakland and injured a kid. I think the Coliseum is vying for the top spot this year in ESPN's "Most Dangerous Stadiums". I would be surprised if BBTN regarded this event with half the seriousness of the Laz Diaz attack. Dick Allen
They brushed it off yesterday. That was worse than either attack here, a little kid got injured.Good thing that didn't happen here, it would have been treated like a terrorist attack. Chisoxfn
This is ridiculous. First the cell phone there and now this. This was way worse in my opinion, but security would have trouble stopping something like this. What the heck are people thinking? The weird thing is this is the first I've heard of it. KipWellsFan
Saw the highlight last night, the blast was extremely loud you could hear it on the broadcast clearly. Scary stuff.
SuperSteve
It's luck the little child only got burned. I assume more people could have gotten hurt alot worse. There is no way to prevent someone doing this. Someone could have gotten badly hurt there, and it is a joke someone would do that. I am glad it didn't happen at the Cell, because we would never get any event such as the All-Star game ever again.
witesoxfan
This is the kind of thing that just pisses the f***ing hell out of me. Let's make something that is not really that big of a deal(a guy running into an umpire) a huge deal, yet let something like this slip under the radar. This nation if f***ing pathetic. I just wish the Sox would just win the whole f***ing thing one of these years and just make the Chicago media shut the f*** up.

YASNY
The attacks on Gamboa and the ump were so much more visual. They had film of those incidents because they happened on the field. I think that's the only reason they were "featured" so much more than this incident.

Guest hotsoxchick1
there is some justice here ......... Man accused of throwing firecracker at A's game is ordered held on -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press $25,000 bail< BC-Baseball-Child Hurt< OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ A man accused of throwing a powerful firecracker during an Oakland Athletics game, injuring an 8-year-old boy, was ordered held on $25,000 bail Wednesday. Oakland Police spokeswoman Danielle Ashford said witnesses saw the 21-year-old man toss the cherry bomb from the third deck to the first tier of bleachers in left field during the third inning Tuesday night's game. The boy was burned on one of his legs and was taken to a hospital. He has since been released, A's spokesman Jim Young said. ``This was not really a lapse in security that led to this incident,'' Young said. ``It was a lapse in judgment by a patron who had more in mind than enjoying a baseball game.'' Police identified the suspect as Travares Moore. He could face charges of assault with a deadly weapon and explosion of a destructive device, police said. No court date had been set and it wasn't immediately clear if he had obtained an attorney.

Guest hotsoxchick1
heres more.. and they think were bad here???? geez we look like altar boys compared to the fans at the coliseum..... Tuesday, July 8 Updated: July 9, 7:21 PM ET Boy suffers burns after fan throws 'cherry bomb' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press OAKLAND, Calif. -- An 8-year-old boy watching the Oakland Athletics' game against Tampa Bay on Tuesday night suffered burns on one of his legs when another fan tossed an explosive device from the upper deck of the Coliseum. The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment. No further information was immediately available. "That was a shame," Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella said. "I saw the kid fall down in the left-field bleachers. It startled everybody." A suspect was in police custody, the A's said. The device, commonly known as a cherry bomb, made a loud boom as it fell from the third deck to the first tier of bleachers in left field. Players turned to look, causing a short delay during the third inning. "I thought a bomb went off it was so loud," Tampa Bay center fielder Rocco Baldelli said. "It was shaking." It was the latest in a string of trouble with fans this season at the Coliseum. On April 19, a fan threw a cell phone at Texas Rangers outfielder Carl Everett. The phone was tossed from the second deck of the Coliseum, said David Rinetti, the A's vice president of stadium operations. The person arrested for throwing the phone was intoxicated, he said. Security was heightened for the following day's game. Rinetti said staffing was increased and a uniformed police officer was stationed at the visitor's bullpen. In addition, an in-house video monitoring system was being used to monitor the right-field area. Everett was hit four days after umpire Laz Diaz was attacked by a fan at U.S. Cellular field in Chicago during a White Sox-Royals game. Later in April, a man at an A's game nearly bit off a police officer's pinkie finger when the officer tried to help Coliseum security break up an argument between fans. In response to the recent fan violence, a bar at the Coliseum was forced to stop serving drinks after the seventh inning of Athletics' games. The West Side Club now follows the same alcohol restrictions already in place in the stands.
