Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn dead at 89

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, whose stubborn, lonely and combative literary struggles gained the force of prophecy as he revealed the heavy afflictions of Soviet Communism in some of the most powerful works of the 20th century, died late on Sunday at the age of 89 in Moscow.

His son Yermolai said the cause was a heart ailment.

Mr. Solzhenitsyn outlived by nearly 17 years the Soviet state and system he had battled through years of imprisonment, ostracism and exile.

No offense to the man, and RIP, but I don't think he counts as filling out the "trifecta."

Hopefully the 3rd person was supposed to be Morgan Freeman since he lived, and have no more surprising deaths, but probably not.

Well, if recent horror movies have taught me anything, the force that Freeman escaped will keep coming after him until it gets him.

He's not famous enough.

He's only one of the most celebrated men of the last sixty years.

RIP. Just recently took a class on Russian literature in the Soviet age and he was a prominent figure in the second half of the class.

Be that as it may, he's still not famous enough.

I agree. I have no idea who the guy is/was. Not that it means much, especially if he was all about politics.

You never had to read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich in high school world lit?? It's seriously one of the best books I've ever read.

It won't have the artistic timelessness of the Theme From Shaft or Bad Santa, I'll grant you. I think Solzhenitsyn also only won one Nobel Prize. I forget, how many did Bernie and Issaic nab again?

;)

"High School World Lit"??? You kidding? I don't even think my school had that class, and if it did and wasn't required, there is no way in Hell I would have taken such a class.
