Mea Culpas for ALL!

OK so we are a good amount of the way into the season, about 3/4s or so, and I want to hear what you biggest screw up was when you were envisioning 2008 was? Did you have the Sox in 4th place? Did you have Carlos Quinten in AAA? Gavin Floyd released? Nick Swisher as a .280 30 homer guy? Scott Linebrink as teh Suxxors?

I'll even start. My biggest miss was on Alexei Ramirez. I liked the signing for the price, but I really didn't think we would get anything out of him this year. I was happy to get production in the last year or two of the contract to justify the $5 million we signed him for.

I don't make mistakes.

The players made mistakes by not playing up to/down to my expectations.

You are my boy, Blue!!!!!

I didnt think Dotel was going to be nearly as effective as he is this year.

That's my mea culpa. I thought this guy had no business being up here and thought he'd benefit from some minor league ball first. Boy was I wrong.

And the other guy I had no faith in was Linebrink. Thought he was over the hill and that his fastball was nothing more than batting practice. Now, we clearly see how much the bullpen misses him.

I would have to say Thome. I never thought he would bounce back.

I never thought for a million years that we would be in the position we are this late in the season. I thought it was a battle for 4th place.

I could make a long list of my incorrect assumptions going into the season...

--I never though Floyd and Danks would be this good. I was going to be happy with them being back end starters, as long as they put in some innings and kept their ERA's under 5.50.

--I thought Javy would build on 2007 and have a huge year.

--I thought Ehren Wassermann was going to be effective again.

--I thought Konerko would start slow and start mashing in June as usual.

--I thought Dye would have a down year.

--And overall, I thought CLE and DET would be contending for the title, with the Sox in 3rd or nipping at the heels of 2nd and contending for, at best, a wildcard.

I also got a few right though, that weren't popular at the time...

--I was confident that Alexei would be a solid starter. Not this solid, but, good.

--I didn't think Floyd would collapse as some did.

--I was confident that TCQ would have a big year.

All told, I was wrong more than I was right.

Gavin Floyd.....there, I've cleansed myself of the stupid "guarantee" I made.

Yeah, I was pretty critical of the Garland/Cabrera deal. I thought that we should've kept Jon and moved Floyd to long relief. While we could certainly use Jon's services right now, throwing Gavin into the rotation and giving him a chance to sink or swim was certainly the right thing to do.

I absolutely RIPPED Kenny Williams for saying that one of his three (I believe it was three) main objectives this offseason was acquiring Carlos Quentin. He quote was "and not a guy like Carlos Quentin, the Carlos Quentin". I figured he was nuts and basically said any team following a 72-90 season that has a main offseason goal of acquiring an injury prone player who hadn't hit in limited big league time was screwed.

That was perhaps the dumbest thought I've ever had in my life on any subject, sports or otherwise.

My response to Swisher trade:

No f***ing way.

Trade your top 3 prospects for an overrated Moneyball OF?

Fire KW before this becomes official.

Who's your leadoff hitter then? Richar?

Cabrera's not a leadoff guy, Swisher's not either.

I chose Ramirez because of his speed.

I did have Quentin batting 9th, though. Who would have foreseen 30+ HRs for Quentin?

I thought this team would contend, so not too many.

At this point the Garland trade. I thought it would have turned out worse.

I thought Konerko would be better.

I thought Crede would have started slower, but finished. Wrong on both.

I always think this is the year Buerhle wins 20+

I had the Tigers higher and the Twins lower.
