ptatc
I was right with Floyd, Danks, Dye, Fields (although could be just a bad injured year) I was really off on Swisher. I normally don't like trading more than one pitching prospect in any deal, because one usually turns out to be at least servicable. But I agreed with this one and it hasn't turned out well so far. My games won could be close, I think it was 88. Although I did have them finishing second to Cleveland. The cleveland part is way off. We'll see about the second place. Texsox
I noticed some of our best posters, those with the most extrensive baseball knowledge have been slightly wrong on a number of things, others seem to be too worried about their reputations to admit it. Anyone else care to be big men and fess up? I'm thinking of some people who will say they will be the first to admit their mistakes. Floyd in particular has proven some well known, intelligent posters wrong. So please feel free to add your name to the I was wrong about Floyd list . . . Dick Allen
I was wrong with Floyd, liked Quentin, but didn't think he'd be a possible MVP this season. I still like Uribe.

BigSqwert
I thought Quentin would be #7 type hitter hitting in the .250s with marginal power. I also thought our pitching would be in the bottom third in the league.

WCSox
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) I wasn't confident on Danks' at all coming into this season, I figured that Danks was going to be a work in progress, but thought that he'd be significantly better than last season. You could see his talent over the first couple months of last season, and I figured that it was just a matter of confidence and arm conditioning. That said, I figured that a 4.80 ERA was on the optimistic end.

fathom
I was worried about Danks' ability to compete after his struggles to end last season. He's shocked the hell out of me this season, and there's not many other pitchers younger than 25 out there that I'd trade him for. His first 6 innings last night were Johan-esque. When Danks keeps his changeup down, he's as good as any left handed starter in baseball. The scary thing about him is I think he could still get hitters out without it, because of his heater, cutter, and curve.
thedoctor
i was actually pretty confident danks would be good this year. strangely enough i felt more confident in him than anyone else on the staff. there was just something about the way he carries himself and the fact that typically he's had good success in his second run at a new level. i was wrong on floyd, though. i thought he'd flame out and be out of the organization by the end of the year. although he has had some struggles, he's been far and away better than i thought he'd be. southsidehawkeye
My biggest mistake for 2008 was Nick Swisher, I thought he'd be putting up some really solid numbers at The Cell. I was really excited about him and although i still like him being on the team and am optimistic about his future, I have cooled off on the Swisher love. Although I never actually said it to anyone, I will admit that I secretly thought that Floyd was unlikely to hold on to a starting spot (I figured he would end up in the pen as a long reliever - maybe with Broadway becoming the 5th starter). I figured that Danks would improve, but never expected this type of season out of him I did get Alexei right, I actually made a bet with one of my best friends (a Cubs fan) that he would rather have Alexei than Fukudome on August 1st (either by Fuku sucking or by Alexei being totally awesome) - although i technically lost the best b.c he wouldn't "rather" have Alexei, he was very nice and lowered the bet quite a bit b.c they have both been pretty outstanding and he never expected that at all. fathom
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) That's what pisses me off when posters slurp other teams young players/farm system. Danks is INCREDIBLY underrated on this board. I was at work thinking about it last night. If Danks was on a division rival, could you imagine the posts about him?(some of which would probably come from you ) Why, I rarely post about young talent on other team? I think teams filled with young talent are incredibly overrated, and would much rather see a team trade some of their young talent for big time major league stars. Kalapse
I really thought Swisher would be better than this, he's been the most disappointing position player in MY eyes this season. I figured he'd be an .850 OPS, 30 HR guy. I was skeptical about Alexei Ramirez's chances of having any major league success this season, he looked 20 pounds underweight and completely overmatched for the first month and a half or so, I didn't think he had much of a chance of turning it around this year. I wanted him playing everyday at short in Charlotte. I thought Javy would post an ERA under 4, wrong on that one. I'm having trouble thinking of anything else though I'm sure there's something I'm missing.

That's the only reason I can think of for someone to doubt his ability, because when he was healthy he was always projected to be a monster. I knew it would be a good, underrated (at the time) pickup and the textbook definition of buying low, but I didn't know he would actually be an immediate MVP contender. I don't think anyone did. I would never put those 2 together. Garland had back to back 18 win seasons and pitched complete games in the post season. Vaz seems to s*** his pants in even remotely big games and tops out at 16 wins (I know wins don't mean that much, but back to back 18 is no fluke). As for this topic: -I had all the faith in the world for Danks, not so much for Floyd, and none in Count. -Was unsure on our bullpen, and in disbelief that macdougal made the ML roster -Psyched to see Swisher on our team, and still can't wait for him to be the everyday 1B'man.
