wilmot825
While at work tonight, I thought of past White Sox players who were big-names but were busts. So I made a list of my All-Time Big Name Busts. C - Sandy Alomar (Just didn't play like the Sandy in Cle) 1B- John Kruk (ugh!) 2B- Robbie Alomar (Could have been nice if he hit the ball once in awhile) SS- Royce Clayton (I can't really pick anyone for here, he fits) 3B- Chris Sabo (The goggles, and thats all anyone can remember) OF- George Bell (What a D-Bag) OF- Kenny Lofton (LOL his time here was more laughable) OF- Darin Erstad (Could never stay healthy, got hurt in the 1st inn. of Cubs/Sox after just coming off DL) DH- Jose Canseco (All Hail King 'Roid) SP R- Bartolo Colon (He won a few games, but he was supposed to Cy Young it on the South Side) SP L- David Wells (Fat Slob always had a back problem, he was just a pain in my ass) CL- Billy Koch (I loved Koch before and after, but he was bad! I think that Mike Sweeney HR is still traveling) GM- Hawk Harrleson (Love the Hawk but dude, Firing LaRussa. Tell me u were drunk?) MG- Terry Bevington (Not really "high profile" but none of our managers were. But this guy....this guy...) Thats my list, what do you think? greg775
That's a pretty good list C - Sandy Alomar - He was Ok that one year wasn't he? 1B- John Kruk - He didn't do much. Ron Blomberg was also a bust at 1B. 2B- Robbie Alomar - He stunk IMO. SS- Royce Clayton (I can't really pick anyone for here, he fits) - One of my least favorite Sox of all time. 3B- Chris Sabo OF- George Bell - He actually complained during the playoffs as I recall about his place in the batting order or something. OF- Kenny Lofton - Huge huge bust. OF- Darin Erstad - Not a good acquisition for the Sox. DH- Jose Canseco - Hit a few bombs, but like you say stunk. SP R- Bartolo Colon SP L- David Wells CL- Billy Koch Can't argue with the pitchers. One year the Sox acquired Bobby Bonds and he was miserable. You came up with a pretty good list IMO. fathom
Where's Griffey Jr?
WilliamTell
That would be pretty good for a late 90's to present lineup. I don't know if I'd go with Jose Canseco mainly because we brought him in after Frank Thomas went down, so we needed a replacement. Maybe the first time Sandy Alomar came he didn't live up to expectations, but his 2nd and 3rd stint with us, I think we all expected not a lot from him. Bo Jackson probably could be considered a bust with his time here.
YASNY
Let me just throw out a few names. George Foster Ron Santo Rocky Colavito Jim Gentile Steve Carlton Cory Snyder Ken Griffey, Jr. ? Jaime Navarro Steve Sax Steve Kemp Some of these guys were big names at the end of their careers, like Griffey, so maybe I'm being a bit harsh. Swingandalongonetoleft
Griffey Jr. may yet turn out to be a solid aquisition, hell, Edmonds did for the Cubs, and Griff was doing better for the Reds than Edmonds for the Pads. Sample size be damned, but it's too early yet to add him to such a list. I thought Colon racked up some W's while he was over here. LosMediasBlancas
I'm still pissed about David Wells. I've never felt like a player disrespected the team and the fans more than he did by basically taking a year off, getting paid well, not giving a s*** and admitting it. bighurt4life
What about Crazy Carl? He was a pretty big name and never really did much with us.

I thought about him too, but I guess he won a World Series with us. D'Angelo Jimenez is somebody who I expected a lot more from but never panned out. Jose Valentin sucked after his first year with us in my opinion.

I'll never forget his prediction that the Sox would flop in 06 after he left. Oh s*** and where is this classic Everett quote from? greg775
Wow that second list of names was good as well. Sox fans know their Sox history. I forgot about Kemp he wasn't very good either.

Jake
My question is are they just big names that didn't produce as in acquiring players that used to be good but hadn't produced in a while ala Griffey, or people we expected to produce but did not. greg775
I kinda liked Valentin all the way through his tenure. He was pretty good.
