whitesoxfan101
Well we've played two horrible and stupid games in Oakland, so I guess it's a good thing we still have a chance to win the series tomorrow. Let's get it.
Princess Dye
a weird game where our strengths were exactly what we need and want to be better - pitching and relieving and yet despite all that it's one of those games that is so hideous to watch. greg775
This is a HUGE win for us I am surprised more on this board don't recognize this. No offense, but Oakland sucks. I'm happy we won but at this stage of the year we need to win this series. I don't care much about our past in Oakland, we gotta win this series. WCSox
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) The A's are not good...to talk about not getting swept and being happy to have won 2-1 is pathetic and just sad. Expecting the Sox to sweep a series is pathetic and just sad.

jeffthedude
If you can't expect them to sweep Oakland, then you certainly can't expect them to make the playoffs. This is probably the easiest stretch of the season for us (KC-Oakland-Seattle), and there comes a point in the season when you look at the schedule and say, yes, they need to win these games. This is a series the Twins would have swept. Actually, it's a series most teams would have--Oakland has won something like 4 games out of the last 30. We have lots of games against Boston, Tampa, New York, and the Angels coming up. Who really thinks we're not headed for total destruction in those games, especially considering how most people realize we're going to get swept by the Twins at the end of the season? I mean, this is a team actually thinks Ken Griffey is a major league center fielder, traded the farm for "Dirty .230" Swisher, does not have anything close to a fifth starter, and would have a losing record were it not for the stroke of luck that is Carlos Quentin. If after all that you STILL somehow think this team can make the playoffs, the least you should expect is a sweep of the AAAthletics. scenario
I'm not sure I understand the logic of the "unless we sweep, we must not be good" posts. The Angels and Tampa Bay, the teams with the two best records in the AL, didn't sweep the A's in either of their recent series. But if we don't sweep them... on the road...that's some sort of statement about us, eh? If we don't sweep them, we suck... if other good teams don't sweep them that's different. Yeah... whatever. witesoxfan
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) Expecting the Sox to sweep a series is pathetic and just sad. I disagree as I fully expected a sweep of Kansas City (and was right in expecting it), but expecting to sweep any series on the road is a bit much. However, aforementioned poster is saying that they aren't happy because the Sox won the game 2-1, not the series. I also think people are underestimating the Sox struggles against Oakland previously and how tough it is in general to win on the road (unless you're the Cubs, but they're all on crystal meth or HGH or something which is why they can play well on the road). Considering both, I was going to be happy leaving Oakland winning one game...if they can win the series I'd be ecstatic.
GoodAsGould
Expecting to sweep any team on the road is a little bit ridiculous, yes Oakland isnt a very good team but sweeping is no easy task, ill gladly take the 2 of 3 from them and hopefully atleast 2 of 3 from seattle too. WCSox
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) I disagree as I fully expected a sweep of Kansas City (and was right in expecting it) As bad as teams like KC and SEA are, they're not Little League squads. Despite their crappy records, they have ample talent and they tend to finish the season with winning percentages of .400 or higher. Therefore, expecting a sweep is just silly. They happen and they're a nice bonus, but being pissed at the Sox for not sweeping is just ridiculous.
greg775
Yeah, you can never be mad at winning a series. 2 of 3 is fine. It just sucks Minnie had no trouble sweeping Seattle. I just hope our guys play with a wild intensity the rest of the way because with Minnesota staying firm in the race every game is so important now.
