what happened to nfl-fans anyway? last time i went to check it out it redirected me to a different site.

It's a long story but to summarize it, the former site owner (natas) sold the rights to the board and the domain name to a site that everybody thought was lame in around August of last year. That didn't go over well and the nfl-fans community just didn't get along with the posters there, among other things. So a few weeks later they bought a new domain name with a decent core of the regular posters but there's been a slow trickle of members gradually coming back since then.

If you want to check out the site I'll PM you the link. You'd have to re-register though.

cool, i would appreciate that. i enjoyed the people on that board.

i posted there under this same name, although i was far from a regular poster. i used to frequent the bears team board back in the day when guys like natas, cbus, and mouse used to post regularly there. as time went on i posted less frequently on the team board and more at nfl-fans. then i went through some life stuff where i wasn't posting much anywhere, and when i was able to post more again nfl-fans was gone. i'd always been curious what had happened to it. thanks for filling me in.

FWIW our Bears sister site is very active now.

I really can't stand the Bears official board, it's kind of a running joke. It's a microcosm of all the bad things about the Bears fanbase. Natas is gone, cbus is in and out because of his job, mouse is still a pretty regular poster.

Personally I dont think anything is wrong with soxtalk, more members are joining every week and some of them very active. People are pretty opiniated though which I guess leads to confrontations when someone else disagrees. Also, not that is a bad thing but a lot of people joined after the WS and dont understand the game of baseball as much as others. This leads to more unpopular opinions that leads to confrontations.

You know who I wish would come back? Goldmember. He's the one that brought me over here from NFL-Fans in the first place.

I have noticed the absence of some good quality posters from the past. I won't mention names because I don't want to offend those who aren't mentioned.

To sum things up, like others have already stated, there has been plenty of changes in people's daily lives and it has taken away their liberty to post as often as they used to. We can only do our best to keep this site well and alive (which should be no problem). After all, both sites are dedicated to the team we love and die for.

I used to visit this site as a news source. It turned into a gossip column. Then I came for the discussion but there are groups of elitists that took the fun out of that. At this point I avoid Pale Hose Talk after a loss. After a win, it's pretty much a field of smug remarks pointed to the negative posters of yesterday's loss. The place feels more like a game of tug of war than it does a community. It's like everyone forgot the entertainment value behind baseball. Matter of fact, I've watched less White Sox games this season as a result of this board. I've cared less. Perhaps we can blame this on a World Series Championship? Nobody is humble anymore?

Well said, Bob D. Too much negativity and not enough fun.

Behind the scenes, the mods/admins are constantly discussing ways to improve the site. However, as everyone knows, we also believe that a good mod presence is one which is never really seen or heard from. The mods do an outstanding job of taking care of issues quickly and away from the everyday discussions.

We feel we give everyone a more than fair shake to share there opinions on Soxtalk and the only real way you get banned is by constantly making inappropriate posts/attacks. And I mean constantly since we pretty much have a multiple strikes and your out policy (rarely is anyone, aside from trolls, banned on a first instance).

This more lenient attitude can lead to a bit more rampant negativity and the ocassional thread that spins out of control but long-term we feel the benefits (the freedom to discuss 99.9% of all topics) far outwieghs the negatives.

As a whole I know my personal level of action at Soxtalk has decreased. At this point I'm more of a figure-head who tries to point things in the right direction but leans heavily on the mods/admins who are around on a day to day, hour to hour basis. The site has grown and that does lead to more stress and more new posters who may not be familiar with the "norms" of Soxtalk. This ocassionally leads to a less than friendly welcome and its the one thing I would really like to see change at Soxtalk.

When Soxtalk was founded, I went out of my way to welcome any and all members. Many people had dumb first posts (lord knows I have about 40,000 dumb posts, and about 1 million grammar errors) and eventually evolved into tremendous posters/assets to the community. I think we all need to remember this when someone jumps down a newbs throat and calls them stupid. Rather, try to educate such person.

Its the education and great discussion amongst posters I have a familiarity with that keeps me coming back (That and ownership, LOL). I always considered myself a smart baseball person but I've learned a vast amount since joining this site and will continue to learn many new things.

In short, I ask each and every member here at Soxtalk to try and do one thing, show respect to your fellow poster (whether they have 50,000 posts or 1 post).

I post at WSI, but I am very careful about my posts there. One time I bashed the team royally in 2006 when Garland blew a 7 run lead against the Royals, and I got flamed, one person told me to go to Clark and Addison. I can't stand all things Cubs, so it kinda stung. I am not afraid to point out the flaws of the team, and that got me in trouble there. I also got flamed in the offseason for advocating blowing up the team after last year's s***ty showing. It is my opinion that the Sox probably won't win the division, but I am okay in saying that here, but if I dare say that at WSI, I'd get flamed. If you post there only post when you're in a good mood about the team. The Sox are a very inconsistent team, and the Twins are much more constistent. That is my basis of this opinion. There are some good things about WSI, but if you criticize the team, beware for an unhappy experience.

I want to clarify my statements.

Outside of the game threads at times, and the irrational thoughts and statements of probably some of the younger folks, this is a top notch site that allows some of the most knowledgeable fans of baseball and the White Sox to converse on their favorite subjects. I've met several quality people from this site and trade tickets and emails with many others. Soxtalk is an asset to many of us and I think its a very well run site.

I really think that some folks have gotten a little too caught up in trying to be right all the time about their statement and have at times lost site of what makes us all in the same boat, wanting the White Sox to win the World Series. I think people need to step back once in awhile and take a look at what you are posting, and if you are more concerned with being right about players, coaches, organizational philosophies, or just your opinion over the actual goal of the team. I try at all times to be critical of areas I think can be improved, but also being happy when the team wins, no matter if my opinion was right on the subject or not. Lets all focus on what we have in common and the board will continue to be as great as it has been for the last 5 years for me. Lets go you WHITE SOX!!

I couldn't agree more with the point you bring up about people who would rather be right about a player/coach/organizational aspect. I know I fall into this trap, and so do a lot of top-notch posters on this site. A perfect example is Dick Allen, who took just loads and loads of criticism from posters for believing in Juan Uribe. DAllen has always been the type of poster who would have a few sentences in every post he made, which allowed him to articulately state his belief (even if it was against the grid). However, it seems like more than half of his posts this season have had to deal with responding to Uribe remarks others make in reference to his support.

Would you agree that this is the reason the winner's postgame threads are shorter than the loser threads? I know that's a common complaint by some people on here, and it just seems like the nature of the beast that there's more diverse opinions about a game that your team loses compared to the euphoria when they win.
