Heads22
I'm still trying to figure out why Verlander looks like a single-A pitcher against the Sox.
lostfan
QUOTE (3E8 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) Cabrera leads all major league shortstops in defensive win shares...by a lot Ugh... he is so half-assed out there. I don't even know how to explain it. And "call the press box" swipes aside, the official scorers have been awfully generous to him. Frankly, Uribe >>> Cabrera at SS, and I am a big Uribe basher. greg775
I don't know about OC's "winning attitude." The Sox beat writers have not written much about that.

For some reason you can't talk about how good if not great Uribe is at shortstop. Naturally O.C. gives you a much better average, but if we're speaking purely defensively, and after having watched both Uribe and Cabrera play the position...Uribe would be my choice. 9th inning of the 4th game of the World Series, and we're holding onto a 1 run lead, I'd be more comfortable with Uribe playing short. Maybe we'll get to see him do it at 3rd. That being said, I don't hate Cabrera (or Uribe) as much as I did the begining of the season. I actually watched that 9th inning the other day and have to say, that was a much thinner looking Juan Uribe. He is still a great glove man, but he is not as good as he was in 2005. I think an offseason conditioning program would put him right back up there, though. Maybe they can resign him with a weight clause like Schilling had. Kyyle23
QUOTE (3E8 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) Cabrera leads all major league shortstops in defensive win shares...by a lot QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) Yea, it's not even close. I was a huge Cabrera trade hater before I saw him play one of the best gloves in the league for the last 120 games. He doesn't have the strongest arm, the best hands, or the best range -- but he's very solid in all of those areas. He's had a couple of "WTF" plays this year but by watching him and coupled with the advanced defensive metrics that have him pretty easily the best defensive SS in the AL this year he's made me a believer. That's the great thing about SS, a guy can OPS 660 and because of defense can still be 3rd in the AL among SS in win shares. Only trailing Young and Peralta. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) Orlando has done a prety decent job overall. I think at first he failed to be the team player we wanted to see, but the others brought him around as did Ozzie. I am not sure he will be looked at for next year, but if he was signed again I wouldn't mind. I can think of worse choices. All i am saying is that he isnt a Gold Glover this year, its not that i think he isnt good. There have been plenty of times that Cabrera has really looked like he would rather be elsewhere, and I think next year he will be elsewhere
