The most exciting play in baseball. - The Triple.

Lance Johnson knows it well.

One Dog is up there with Sam Crawford, Stan Musial, and Willie Wilson in the record books. He lead the majors in triples at least five times in his career. He even had an almost unheard-of 21 triples with the Mets in 1996.

Not bad for a 6th rounder who was a throw-in when the Sox dealt Jose DeLeon to St Louis in 1988.

Johnson was an excellent defender in center field and an offensive spark plug on some really bad Sox teams.

Need a hit?

Johnson averaged .291 in his career.

Steal a base?

He had over 225 in 6 full and two partial seasons with the Sox.

Johnson was also a selective hitter.

He walked more than he K'd in 7 of his 14 seasons.

One Dog was a Sox fan favorite in an era where there was little to cheer about on the Southside.
