Heads22
Nice to see Danks heat up. Would like to see him and Gordon in AA next year.
ChiSox_Sonix
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) Nice to see Danks heat up. Would like to see him and Gordon in AA next year. Question for the minor league guys. Several people have mentioned wanting to see them in AA next year (I would too) while some have said that might be pushing it. So my question is, playing ball at big-time D1 schools, what does that equate to on the minor league side if you had to make a comparison? A-ball... somewhere between low-A and high-A depending on the development of the player. If you think of it in terms of age... most guys in A-ball are around 21-22... Which puts them at about the same development level (age-wise) as college players who get drafted. Chisoxfn
I'd say between rookie & low A depending on the college team he played on (ie, conference/schedule), but High A is far more advanced than the typical college player could handle right out of the gates. The only potential exceptions are the true superstar collegiate players.

JPN366
With Paulo Orlando gone now, Danks has the inside track to start in CF for B'ham in 2009. Shelby will be in LF for B'ham in 2009. Greg Paiml deserves the starting job at SS for the Barons in 2009. So, I think Beckham will start in W-S in 2009.

I am fairly certain that if Beckham performs well the rest of the year, he will start in AA. Paiml might deserve it, but you want your star prospect to face the best competition possible to prepare for the Bigs.

It does depend on what the White Sox have in mind long term for Paiml. He's already 24, he's from B'ham too. I think Danks is on a faster track than Beckham. The White Sox seem to see Quentin, Swisher & Danks as their future outfield. Beckham will probably be in Chicago by the middle of 2010. Chicago has more options in the middle infield to see how things shake out. Dye is just keeping things warm for Danks. scenario
I think both Danks and Beckham will start in Winston-Salem next year. If they do well... promote them. I don't see the need to start them against AA pitching after only 10-12 games of professional experience this year. If they struggled then you have to consider demoting them and deal with the confidence issues that come with that. Let them earn their way up. If they do it quickly... great. BearSox
I agree. However, I would promote them very quickly if they were producing.

In my world, I would like them both to be in AA and then move up to AAA for the rest of 2009, so that they can inflate their numbers and have confidence coming into the 2010 season. Realistically, when was the last time the Sox brought up two guys from their farm system and inserted them as everyday starters right away. 1999? with C-Lee and Singleton. This year sort of with Q and Alexei, but that doesn't happen often, so I am sure we will see them separate maybe next year.
scenario
I'd start them at Winston-Salem and promote them to Birmingham at mid-season if they've earned it. If they play well at both levels, and the organization wants to play it aggressive... then have them start the following year at Charlotte. IMO, starting them at AA and assuming they can move up to AAA in 2009 is way too aggressive. Edited August 26, 2008 by scenario

Just let them build up some confidence and get a running start into AA. However, if they rake in ST, I'd put them in AA right away. Then, after spending the majority of the season in AA, I'd promote them to Charlotte and let them build up a lot of confidence. If they have great seasons and rake all year, I'd think about giving them a cup of coffee in September. However, I don't think we should be in such a hurry to promote them, and instead wait until sometime in 2010. Perhaps have Beckham compete for starting 2B job in ST 2010 and have Danks come up midseason? Of course, this is all a best case scenario.
