Taveras is better than Owens because he can actually play defense. From everything I've seen, he's a much better fundamental player and would make a much better 4th outfielder. He still sucks though, and he wouldn't get past all of the NL teams, let alone getting to the White Sox.

With the rosters expanding and CF being up for grabs next season, I'd take a flyer on Taveras IF he were to get through and the asking price was reasonable. Owens is more suited for LF, which means that his prospects of cracking the starting lineup in Chicago in the next couple of years are bleak.

Fuentes is good, but the same waiver rule applies, as he wouldn't get past several NL teams before even getting to the bottom of the AL.

Not to mention that the Rockies would ask an arm and a leg for him. It'd be nice, but agreed that it won't happen.

ok, that makes sense guys. This waiver stuff just annoys me, most players we hear on it don't get traded, then out of the blue someone like Guardado gets traded.

It is supposed to be a secret process, hence the surprises. Sometimes a GM or someone on his staff has a little bit too loose of lips and information gets out. From the sounds of it I would guess about 99% of what goes on, we have no clue about.

The Rockies put Taveras on waivers because they think that Podsednik is the one who is going to save that franch....BWAAAAHHH HAAAAAHHHH...

Sorry, couldn't make it through that without laughing.

I think they just wanted to dump the salary, Pods was just activated from the DL, and is only signed through the rest of the year.

Taveras has 61 SB, and they probably just wanted to see if they could get something in return for a player with that type of skill, who is a cheap and signed through next year.

Well, Kotsay got through to Boston, so I think the idea that nobody would get through to us may not be so.

Mark Kotsay is old, expensive, injury prone and bad. Those sort of players will go unclaimed and be available if the Sox are interested. The young, cheap, productive ballplayers (any of the 3) won't make it to us.

Fuentes is officially off of waivers because he was put on bereavement leave.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Rockies are unable to trade Brian Fuentes before the August 31 deadline because moving him to bereavement leave Tuesday canceled his placement on waivers.
