Brian
Since the All Star Break he is batting .253 with only 9 homers and 22 RBI's. Slugging is .487 compared to .552 in 1st half.

Gregory Pratt
No. He's just tired -- it's his first full season. And Young/Kinsler haven't been getting on for him. (Kinsler is out, at that.)
witesoxfan
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) No. He's just tired -- it's his first full season. And Young/Kinsler haven't been getting on for him. (Kinsler is out, at that.) That's not going to affect his average or power numbers though...only his RBI (Young and Kinsler not getting on base, that is...fatigue certainly will). Point made that he's only half the man that Carlos Quentin is and he has no blood of a god in him.

It's certainly going to affect his average and power numbers whether or not there's someone on base, especially a guy like Kinsler who is 26/28 on stolen bases this year. It's probably not worth 100 points of average, but if there's a guy on first, like Kinsler, the pitcher is pitching from the stretch, he's throwing more fastballs, he's possibly even forced to throw more hittable pitches because he decides he can't walk Hamilton, etc.

CanOfCorn
bobby Abreu had the same problem until later in the season, when he had time to recover. He didn't play in the heat of Texas and he didn't have slumping players in front of him. The home run derby, while fun, can cause some major problems for people...not tiring problems...timing problems.

It is definately a trend for Rangers to fall off in the second half.
southsideirish71
I would say that two things are probably the culprit. One is the heat. The other are the advanced scouts found something that is being exploited right now.
Kalapse
Coming out of the All-Star break Josh Hamilton's OPS actually went up. He raised his OPS by 17 points in the first 2 weeks after the break and pretty much maintained that ~.927 for 2 weeks after that, really he's just been terrible over the past week or so. He's hitting .158/.179/.316/.495 over his last 38 ABs. There's your culprit. Remove the last week and Josh Hamilton is hitting .289/.381/.562/.943 w/ 8 HR and 20 RBI in 31 games since the break. So no the Homerun Derby had absolutely nothing to do with it. He's just in a slump right now.
YASNY
That ballpark is enclosed on all sides. If fact, I was stunned when I walked into it the first time. The stands block any breeze there might be, and the heat down there can be just be oppresive. I fully believe the Rangers second half fades are a direct result of the long hot summers. While people are wearing coats to see the Sox at the Cell in April, the Rangers are playing in hot humid weather. It adds up over the course of a season. Like I said a week ago: it was just a small recent slump, the HR Derby hasn't had a negative effect on him.

For sure. Even in Miami during the summer, at least you can count on an afternoon thundershower around 4 or 5 PM to cool things off a bit. It's just oppresive, dry heat with few signs of rain in Dallas. Brutal.
