scenario
Lots of day games today... Charlotte beat Durham 6-1 Charlie Haeger with a very nice performance and the win. Complete game; 1 run on 6 hits; 7 K's and 0 BBs. Winston-Salem @ Frederick Anthony Carter pitching Warthogs were losing 3-1 in the late innings and came back to win 6-4... Closing out their season with 15 wins in their last 19 games. A good time to be hot... Hopefully they can keep it going against 1st place Myrtle Beach when the playoffs start on Wednesday. Kannapolis @ West Virginia Jason Rice pitching The Twins Brewers A-league team beat us 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th by scoring a guy from 3rd on an infield grounder (after two guys singled). Damn Piranhas Cheeseheads. They start 'em young, don't they? Great Falls @ Billings - tonight Dan Hudson pitching Postponed due to rain Edited September 2, 2008 by scenario

whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Yep. 4 in the last 10 games. Gotta like that. He's up to .297/.359/.459/.819 at Kanny. Still not great, but a major improvement over his atrocious start. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) Oney Guillen 1-3 w/ 2B, R Regardless of what the reason is, the fact he's in triple a makes me want to weep. Finally, glad to see John Shelby doing well and go get them tonight Daniel Hudson. /random
maggsmaggs
This draft class continues to impress. With Morel showing legit pop, that is six guys who are showing to be legitimate ML prospects (Beckham, Danks, Morel, Upchurch, Hudson and Carter). Even Kuhn and Greeene have played well, but I would like to see them do their stuff at higher levels, because they do not have the physical tools of Hudson and Carter. JPN366
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Regardless of what the reason is, the fact he's in triple a makes me want to weep. He was up to Charlotte because Paul Phillips, Johs Fields, Chris Getz, Jerry Owens, Mike MacDougal & Ehren Wassermann were called up to Chicago. Nobody from W-S or B'ham would have gone up anyway. Not even the Butcher, who is still suspended. Still, seeing his name in the box score was a WTF moment.

Funny... as soon as I read that, I remembered it. I remember some of the players from Helena in the Pioneer League last year.... and that's a Brewers' farm club. Thanks for straightening me out JPN. I don't know what I was thinking. Edited September 1, 2008 by scenario

Flash Tizzle
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Oney Guillen 1-3 w/ 2B, R I know many probably don't care around here, but someone from the Tribune or Sun Times should write a story on this. Whether it's Williams signing his son in the 6th round, the Wilder fiasco, or talentless Oney finding himself in Charlotte, it seems to become more apparent every day something just isn't right with our system. I'm supposed to take the aforementioned points and somehow believe we'll do well developing Beckham, Danks, or any other player? It seems to me the lack of success we've had drafting and developing quality players fits in just well with how everything is run. It's ridiculous that Oney can find himself promoted three levels, obviously on nothing more than his daddy's name. If I were any player below him in the system I'd be insulted to have worked my ass off for years only to have some hipster dufus pass me up. ChiSox_Sonix
I think everyone is looking too far into this. Charlotte needed an IF for one game. They werent going to sign someone b/c thats just dumb. They werent going to promote someone from W-S because they are in the playoffs and they arent going to promote someone from Birmingham for just one game, they're going to let those guys finish out the year on their teams with their teammates. They sent up Oney b/c they know he doesnt have a future. He barely played in Kanny this year. The reason he was there was b/c they needed a guy at backup to play once a week (or less) when a regular needed an off day. They werent about to promote someone with a future to play the role of a guy coming off the bench to receive 10 ABs per month. IMO, Oney was being used to fill a need that no one would want anyone with any sort of potential to fill. I think people are overreacting to this completely, IMO, as I feel it means nothing he played one game in AAA b/c they were in need of a player. Remember when Adam Ricks played a couple games in AAA last year? He was not there on merit. He was there b/c he could be sacrificed from his current team to fill a need in Charlotte after they had people called up to close out the year. Its a non-issue IMO

I'm not sure this move justifies a phone call to Oliver Stone. Birmingham and Winston-Salem are both in the playoffs, which start this week, so nobody from either of those squads was going to be called up to Charlotte for one meaningless game. So... next you look at the Kannapolis lineup. You need a second baseman. Flip a coin. Bring up Eduardo Escobar or Ozzie Guillen's kid. They chose Guillen. What a shock. Is it a violation worth a Tribune article to make that decision? Please.... Like Chisox-Sonix said... it's a non-issue. JPN366
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) Hmm, I was unaware of this second base dilemma. Haven't been following the minors. Now I feel like a damn momo. Charlotte's final game, call ups made them shorthanded. One game fill in. Actually, Oney had to drive three and a half hours overnight from West Virgina to Charlotte, whose game started at Noon Eastern time. Still, Kenny Jr. there is no excuse for. He hasn't played since June by the way.
