I find it odd that there was apparently no discussion of what Palin may have objected to, and that the librarian's immediate response was, "No!" It's kind of difficult for me to draw a conclusion from that, given that I don't know if Palen wanted nude photograph/artwork or the local copy of Huckleberry Finn removed.

As for the trooper firing, this guys has admitted to tasering a child and was apparently sanctioned (a laughable slap on the wrist) for almost two dozen violations by his department, including drinking while driving a police car. And that's on top of the alleged threats against Palin's father and sister. I know an untenured Illinois public school teacher who was fired for a picture of what appeared to be him smoking from a bong on his Facebook page, so I find it laughable that this Wooten guy is still allowed to carry a badge and a gun and that Palin is being criticized by removing the guy who refused to fire his violent/alcoholic ass. Maybe I'm biased because I support the ticket, but I don't see how Palin can be blamed for fighting obvious corruption in the police department just because her extended family fell victim to it.

I reserve judgment one way or another until I find out she did or didn't do something wrong.

[cheesehead] Ya, you betcha! [/cheesehead] :P

LOL! I think for me, it actually goees back to a TV show I watched as a kid... Bobby's World. It was a carton if anyone remembers it. The mom had the thick northern accent and always said "dont scha know". And now, that's all i can hear. lol

Is everybody convinced she'll make it to Wednesday night?

If the very interesting McCain camp strategy of "Announce First, Vet Later" ends up turning up enough that Palin becomes radioactive, I assume they will get her to bow out gracefully, citing her parental demands and the desire to stay in Alaska, etc. After she formally accepts on Wednesday, it will take an RNC committee vote to get her off the ticket.

yea right

Yeah, the poster you quoted was completely over the top in his hate for Palin. The words "terrified" and "afraid" came to mind reading his posts. I found it quite funny, even the biggest Obama supporters here (athomeboy and so on) have been tough, but fair towards Palin in my opinion. He went crazy on her, and hasn't been back since her speech. Not a coincidence.

Get a journalism degree, learn how to read a teleprompter and have someone write a nice speech for you and poof you get what you saw Wednesday night.

She sounded good but it sounded like a nah nah nah nah speech you hear in school yard telling people I'm rubber your glue whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you.

Somehow RSO became a Washington elite???

Being from IL I always liked Obama but I had previously liked McCain and was happy he was the nominee. Now with Palin as his running mate I feel that my intelligence is being attacked by the hollywood void of thought that makes us feel we need to back the cubs, care about Bradgelina, spend $$$$ on designer wares and love the NFL and Grey's Anatomy.

There is a part of me that really feels a little dumber after her speech, I am not sure why.

I would call myself an independent who voted for both Bushes, hated Clinton, but liked both Kerry and Gore. MCCain would have been an option but now I can not even think about it.

Somehow Palin seems like personal attack on my intelligence and I am not sure why. She actaully makes me like Hillary Clinton.

I heard her teleprompter was malfunctioning and she was actually only going off her notes written in front of her.

that was false. a reporter who was in the front in the press area could see both palin and the teleprompter said there was no malfunction.

The teleprompter may have appeared to be "working", but apparently they weren't able to stop it during the applause about halfway through.

That said, I think that they're making too much of a big deal about this. Everybody who spoke had been practicing their speeches for several days and I believe they all had notes in front of them as well. So it wasn't exactly some sort of super-human feat. I heard that the same thing happened to Guiliani.

The official word was that they didn't stop it long enough several times during the applause and that by the time she was able to speak again, the first sentance or two were already gone.

or that could be spin to make it sound like she did something special that validates her as a great speech giver. Not trying to belittle her, just saying that's what people do in politics. Make people look better than they are.

The same source(s) that reported also reported that Guiliani experienced the same problem. I don't see their motive for propping him up.

Ill take your word for it. Being an Obama fanboy you know all about people that can only speak well when they have a prepared speech in front of them.

well it makes it more believable if he had issues right before palin did, considering there would be no time to fix the teleprompter between the two speeches.

no one has been willing to go on record about this, btw. no one in the mccain campaign, no one at the xcel center, no one in the audience. no one. this report was based on a piece of information from a mccain staffer who wouldn't give his/her name.

it's also interesting that so many who are quick to point out the liberal bias in the media are equally quick to put total and complete faith in something no one will put their name to and has only been reported in a blog called "red state" and those noted liberal bastions fox news and drudge.

too bad, too. her speech wasn't bad. it didn't really need a sideshow to prop it up. the insecurity is showing.

does that emoticon mean, "i can't really factually rebut your answer so i'll attempt to be funny"?

No, it's a substitute for the "irony emoticon."

It's difficult to "factually rebut" an opinion, so I don't see what purpose your post serves.

Well I haven't been on here much lately, but just wanted to say....Love the Palin pick. Loved the Palin speech. Love seeing and hearing the fear in every Obama groupie I come across. I thought McCain gave the speech of his life. It didn't come off as political bulls***....it was genuine and touched a lot of people. There aren't too many speeches I have ever said that about.

If you're a democrat I know you think it sucked and was a bunch of $#&^%....this post isn't directed at you.

Quotes from people in Alaska re:Palin:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/worl...icle4671858.ece

Among those who couldn't make it to the Tailgaters bar was Lynette Clark, chair of the Alaskan Independence Party, who last night issued an apology for incorrectly claiming that Palin was once a member of the pro-separatist group. In fact, only Todd Palin was ever a member.

Ms Clark lives just north of Fairbanks, a six hour drive from Wasilla. "My husband and I are both gold miners, and right now we have water flowing through our sluice box, and when that occurs we don't do a lot of socialisin'," she said

Although it was the 'water flowing thru their sluice boxes' that got my attention.

If this isnt right out of the bush playbook, i dont know what is....

Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called "October surprise" that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.

In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska's bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called "troopergate" investigation.

If you dont like the results, replace the "judge" with a move favorable one.

Well, the allegations first surfaced in a blog belonging to Andrew Halcro, the guy who happened to be the losing candidate in the 2006 gubernatorial election. No agenda there.

The prosecutor appointed to look into things is Steve Branchflower who served as an Assistant District Attorney in Anchorage from 1974-1998, held numerous positions which required him to work extremely closely with the Anchorage Police Department, where Walt Monegan would become chief in 2001. He provided legal advice to APD officers, trained APD officers, and was even a co-founder of the APD's Homicide Response Team. His wife also worked as a detective for the APD, not retiring until 2002, meaning that she worked under Walt Monegan. In short, it seems impossible to believe that Branchflower, whose entire career was wrapped up in his relationships with the APD, and his detective wife did not have at least some professional relationship with Walt Monegan, who was obviously one of the city's top cops. Mrs. Branchflower also briefly came out of retirement to work as a cold case detective for the Alaska State Troopers.

And with the initial Wooten stuff happening in 2005, why did it take until 2008 for her to fire someone, supposedly because he wouldn't fire Wooten? I don't blame her for wanting someone else to look into this. From the getgo it smells like a political witchhunt.

I could only imagine if the spouse of Biden or Obama were a member of such a group. The hypocrisy is laughable.
