He references Cuba and Iran and he is comparing the "size" to Russia, he isnt talking about economic size. He actually uses the word "tiny"

And both are, relative to the USSR, tiny in both population and economic size.

Again, unless you think he was saying that Canada is a major superpower, more powerful than the US, then your argument is just a red herring.

Im not gonna say my point isnt stupid, I know it is. I just think its stupid to assume a countries power might be lacking if it isnt the size of Russian, especially when they have nuclear weapons. Im admitting its a stupid argument, it was more ribbing for people criticizing Alaska, but will you at least for diplomacy admit he was in fact talking about the physical size of Iran, because you know he was.

Agreed. Yes, he said "tiny" and in the same sentance (or thought) said in comparision to Russia (or the USSR, I can't remember which in context). Look, I'm NOT an RSO supporter in any way, but this is a jackass argument and it's stupid every time I hear it (read it) brought up.

I never felt he was.

It's Open Mic Day on MSNBC. WOW! (Some language here, so be careful)

The voices are Mike Murphy (Republican political consultant) and Peggy Noonan with a little Chuck Todd.

Church Todd: "Was she really the most qualified woman?"

Noonan: "no... I think they went for the political bulls*** about narratives". She added: "It's Over" for McCain.

If you turn over to Fox, you'll see either Geraldine Ferraro or Susan Estrich (both Hillary surrogates) accusing the liberal media of sexism and predicting that a full 1/3 of Hillary's female supporters will vote for McCain... ON CAMERA, every day. I think it's obvious that there is some serious media-sniping going on in both parties, because one or more key players was pissed off about the VP picks. The Clintons are obviously working against Obama so that Hillary can run again in 2012 and it's perfectly reasonable to assume that some of the GOP base want to undermine McCain (for obvious reasons).

I said to someone the other day that I swear Hillary knew what was coming re: Palin.

And this is from McCain's national campaign co-chair, Meg Whitman:

"I actually think it's completely fair for the media to vet Sarah Palin," Whitman said, adding that it was "the right thing to do" for the media to dig into the background of someone who is "running for the highest office in the land."

Asked directly whether there had been any media sexism, she replied: "I wouldn't say there really has."

“Strong countries and strong Presidents talk to their adversaries. That’s what Kennedy did with Khrushchev. That’s what Reagan did with Gorbachev. That’s what Nixon did with Mao. I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela — these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don’t pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us. And yet we were willing to talk to the Soviet Union at the time when they were saying we’re going to wipe you off the planet.”

How do you get that this is a geographical comparison.

Examples:

The Cuban army is tiny compared to the United States Army.

The Cuban GDP is tiny compared to the United States GDP.

How in any way shape or form is tiny related to geography?

And if the comparison was size, why does he refer to the United States as a "strong" country, and not a "large" or "small" country.

Seriously hilarious reading going on.

It wouldn't surprise me, given that Hillary's brother allegedly met with a senior McCain campaign worker about a week and a half ago. Hell, there could've been outright collusion between the two camps.

I read a lot of Dick Morris' columns, who (despite being a biased Republican) is pretty honest in his analysis and is very insightful. He'd been pushing HARD for Hutchinson for weeks (and Lieberman, prior to Biden getting the nod) and I suspect that the McCain campaign got the message that they really needed to shake things up and do something unconventional.

So, I'm trying to understand something...if it's not a big deal that Governor Palin has a pregnant 17 year old daughter, and the media isn't supposed to talk about it, why is the McCain campaign making a big enough deal of it to not only bring the kid to the convention but to have Senator McCain personally doing a greeting/photo op with them at the airport?

If this is something that's supposed to be a private matter then why exactly aren't they keeping it private?

I don't think that's the case. I really don't. Hillary doesn't control her surrogates. I think Obama personally pissed off Ferraro, and I think Ferraro is just speaking because nobody would talk to her irrelevant ass anyway.

If there was anything close to collusion with McCain, it would be really bad for Hillary in the short, medium and long run. Her people never could keep their mouth shut about things, so we'd probably already know by now.

I don't think that you're giving Hillary enough credit, and find it odd that both Ferraro AND Estrich continue to play the "sexism" card to draw sympathy for Palin...

Agreed that collusion is unlikely, but I'm willing to bet that the Clintons leaked it to the press to further undermine Obama.

"tiny" does not necessarily mean physical size. I really don't know why you keep insisting that it does. Iran is tiny compared to cold-war Russia in many, many ways. I really don't understand how anyone could honestly think he was talking about land mass there. He doesn't have the intellect of a 10 year old.

But I dont buy it (literally and figuratively). Too soon for this to break.

Gallup: For Every Voter Palin Wins Over, Another Jumps To Obama

A new polling analysis from Gallup suggests that John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin may have helped him solidify his support among Republican women -- but it may have also alienated other voters and made the whole thing a wash for now.

Gallup's polling finds that McCain support among Republican women has increased from 85% to 90% in the last few days since Palin's selection. But on the other hand, his numbers have gone down among other groups: He's fallen by four points among independent men and three points with indy women, and is down by five points with Democratic men and two points with Dem women. So Palin hasn't really helped him so far.

"Instead, the data suggest that McCain has in essence fought a rear-guard action of sorts among white women of his own GOP base," the analysis finds, "building their support to a degree even as he was losing support among independents and Democrats of both genders."

I don't buy it either. If it were true, they probably wouldn't be in the process of suing the Enquirer right now.

It's not a very credible source, but I don't know about the "too soon" argument. It wouldn't take very long to track down her enemies and ask them to talk to you.

you last point is well taken. Apparently they dispatched the "Edwards team" to Alaska this week.

I should also add that they are taking credit for the Bristol story.

Radar reported last night that the National Enquirer, fresh off breaking the John Edwards scandal, was hot in pursuit of the Bristol Palin pregnancy story.

"I definitely think we triggered the announcement," Editor David Perel told Politico this morning.

Perel said that the Enquirer has three reporters -- from "the Edwards team" -- up in Alaska.
