HuskyCaucasian
Per MSNBC: Mike Huckabee made the claim that Palin got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States. For the record, Joe Biden got 79,754 total votes in the Democratic primaries. As of the 2000 census, the population of Wasilla was 5,469. It has been reported at currently more than 9,000. That would mean, conservatively, the entire town of Wasilla would have had to have had a 100% turnout for nine years at 9,000 to top Biden's primary numbers. lostfan
I really just want to hear Palin speak. I don't want to hear s*** that Rudy has to say. I turned on the TV thinking he was done and quickly turned it back off. Wake me up when Palin's talking.

It sticks the Cub fan-esque attendence style arguements right where they belong.
StrangeSox
Sarah Palin loves her some Windfall Profits Tax and giving that money directly to citizens. Hmm, sounds exactly like Obama's plan that was derided by Republicans (and rightly so). http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/loca...laskatax07.html
ChiSox_Sonix
FYI http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26536487?GT1=43001 MSNBC put a poll up yesterday. ~475,000 votes. 59% say her speech was effective at introducing herself and boosting the McCain campaign 24% say no, she spent too much time mocking Obama 17% say it remains to be seen
NorthSideSox72
OK so, I recorded Palin's speech (I hope). Haven't seen it yet. ANy impressions, thoughts? The MSM and their left-wing bias is doing nothing but slobbering all over her speech. I can't recall any VP candidate ever getting such positive coverage. Personally, I think that her speech was written to mock RSO's speech. Southsider and I were talking about that last night. I think it's true. Then, I kept thinking to myself, if something were to happen to McCain, this lady would be running the country and trying to deal with dignitaries around the world? Nah, it doesn't fit. At least RSO looks and acts the part, I don't see Sarah Palin as a Margaret Thatcher or anything.
BigSqwert
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 06:20 AM) OK so, I recorded Palin's speech (I hope). Haven't seen it yet. ANy impressions, thoughts? The MSM and their left-wing bias is doing nothing but slobbering all over her speech. I can't recall any VP candidate ever getting such positive coverage. She did a fine job of reading what was mostly written before she was even selected as VP. Granted she was a television anchor so she has experience reading from a teleprompter. It was purely a red meat speech. I'm not sure it really convinced people as to why McCain and Palin will be good for the country or better than Obama/Biden. It was a lot of one liners and snark with a condescending tone. But hey I'm a liberal so what did you expect to hear from me?
BigSqwert
And it seemed like she was reading a wikipedia page about Iran and other countries. The Daily Show ripped her on that one last night.
kapkomet
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:27 AM) And it seemed like she was reading a wikipedia page about Iran and other countries. The Daily Show ripped her on that one last night. She wasn't up there to gain the votes of the educated, she was up there to get the votes of the emotional, non educated people, and her speech was taylored and literally dumbed down to that. And, again, I think it was written in a way to mock RSO's speech from last week, on purpose.

I think they pretty much drafted that speech after they got an advance of RSO's. It was all done with an intent to mock his. I don't care who was going to give the speech, Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, whoever.

And, again, I think it was written in a way to mock RSO's speech from last week, on purpose. Interesting. I've read some news articles about the speech. Major TV type news outlets like CNN and MSNBC ran, mostly, articles saying how inspiring and great it was. But if you read the papers or other more in-depth formats, they say more what you just said. I's say that means her speech was effective for the intended audience. But at the same time, I find that a little insulting.
BigSqwert
She did have one very big impact that got me excited. Per NBC last night Obama raked in $10M in donations since her speech. She's doing a great job of riling up the democratic base and I'm pretty sure Hillary supporters as well.

BigSqwert
Also, is there any reason why the McCain camp will not let Palin do any interviews or go on any talk shows? How long can they hide her from the American people. We know nothing about her positions.
Rex Kickass
CNN had a pundit refer to her last night as the ideological heir to George Bush without the baggage of actually being tied to him. Palin's speech got me excited too. So excited that I did something I swore I wasn't going to do this campaign. I donated to Obama's election warchest.
