greg775
Some of the Yankee starters have been s*** lately. Hopefully we can somehow win 2 or 3. Edited September 15, 2008 by greg775
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
Just win baby ! Don't really care about who we're missing and what the bullpen does or doesn't do. Win ugly , win pretty, but just win.
Kalapse
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) Great great day. Applause for our starters. Wise's hit truly was incredible. Loved Thome's homer and BA's as well. I don't know what lesson can be learned from Game Two. I guess Oz should assume no lead is safe the next 2 weeks and only pitch Thornton and Bobby in the pen until their arms fall off. And I guess Linebrink as well. Boone should never toe the rubber again this year. Just the sight of him awakens our opponents' bats. Doetl is stealing money from major league baseball. He is so bad at times it baffles. A DH win this time of year is so huge. Congrats Sox on a great day. Dotel's struggles over the past month and a half are likely a bi-product of the number of innings he threw in the first 4 months (4 incredibly effective months) of the season. He has over 60 IP this year, he hasn't thrown anywhere near this many since 2004 largely because of the Tommy John surgery he had in 2006. So you have a 34 year old reliever who hasn't thrown much over the past 3 seasons and is really coming off ligament replacement surgery and yet he was able to remain effective for 4 months/50 innings to start the season? I'd say the Sox have gotten their money's worth. First 50.2 IP from Dotel: 3.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 12.79 K/9, 4.09 BB/9, 5 HR, .193 BAA and stranded 75% of his inherited runners. That's easily worth five million dollars. Relievers are going to be fickle, one day they'll save your ass, the next they'll kill you, it's just the nature of the bullpen. He's been truly awful since the start of August, like 8 ERA, s*** load of hits, .330+ BAA, 50% IR stranded, 1.200 OPS against bad. His arm is about to fall off. It was against the Twins, they were down 3-2 and he hit a 2-run HR in the bottom of the ninth!!!! Oh memories...

Way more productive than the usual DOTEL BLOWS DOOD. We're kind of caught where, everything you say is right, and saving his arm some now for playoffs would be ideal. But we have no other option so he's gotta go out there and K people.
greg775
Great post Kalapse, but the reason I question Dotel's head is tonight for example. That inside burner he threw for the strikeout was amazing. Then the next pitch was belt high meat for the home run. His first two pitches to the first batter he faced were unhittable. The next four pitches were not even close to the strike zone. Weird. Maybe it is all because of what you said about innings, but I don't understand why some pitches are so nasty. soxfan3530
good day for baseball. bad day for football. one thing that the dumb ass ESPN crew said that actually made sense was that this upcoming 10 game roadie can make or break our season. play well and we should be in good shape. Let's go Sox!
joejoedairy
So you think that the next 10 games when we have 13 left might be crucial? That is prophetic
