fathom
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) Once Betemit came in to pinch hit, Ozzie really needed to go to another RHP in the pen (if he had one up, I can't remember) instead of leaving Ramirez in there. That was the killer. He couldn't, Ramirez had to face a batter.
DBAHO
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) He couldn't, Ramirez had to face a batter. Who did Betemit pinch hit for again?
southsider2k5
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) The thing is, there are better options than Wassermann. MacDougal, Carrasco, or Russell could have easily been brought in last night to start the 7th inning. Also, what's the point of playing match-ups with Ramirez if hitters are going to bat over .350 against him? The combination of Ramirez and Wassermann has lost us 3 games in the past 2 weeks. MacDougal who gave up a hit and a walk before getting an out? Carraso who gave up two hits, allowed an inherited runner to score, and didn't record and out the night before, plus has an era over 9 this month? Russell who has a 5 and a quarter ERA with a .365 baa and 1.56 WHIP this year? Maybe I could agree with Mike M, but in reality, how sad is it that we are begging for Mike MacDougal right now? Are you really saying you would want to have him on the mound in a pressure situation anymore than anyone else? He didn't look that good when he did get out there, I doubt he would have been much better starting the inning. Again, Ozzie has s*** to pick from unless it is Jenks or Thornton time. JohnCangelosi
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) The only person who wasn't available yesterday was Thornton (according to pregame). These guys had 2 days off prior to the DH on Sunday. MacDougal in the 7th, Dotel in the 8th, Jenks for the 9th. There's really no excuse to ever use Wassermann, Ramirez, or Logan in a close game with the way the standings are. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
JohnCangelosi
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Does their pussy hurt? Really? we had a double header the DAY before this game, the Twins were losing, most of our top relievers werent available. It happens, another game off the magic number. I hate this attitude that we can afford to lose a game right now that we're 2 games up in the loss column. In a few days we can be really regretting that attitude. It could happen we get blown out tonight and wish we went hard for the win yesterday...especially with how bad we suck on the road

It could happen we get blown out tonight and wish we went hard for the win yesterday...especially with how bad we suck on the road The irony is we are seeing the fruits of the idea that you can use the same guy over and over again with the complete blow up of O Dotel and his arm practically falling off in September. Chisoxfn
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) Right, McD should have pitched the 7th 8th and 9th innings......Thats his role. I never said that, but considering the options, I'll go with the best option early and hope the offense can take care of things so that you can than turn things over to a more risky guy. Bottom line I'd rather hold a tie for as long as possible and go with my best options than turn it over to someone that you know will blow it (and the stats back me up that they will blow it). Go with MacD for 2 and than if its still tied it falls into the hands of Wassy. But if Mac does his job who knows, maybe the Sox offense picks up a run or two and now you can go to one of the bigger guys for the final inning. joejoesox
wassermullet sucks, i hope we never see him in another game this year he just can't throw strikes consistently, yet he was throwing well in the minors, might be the pressure of being in a pennant race. there was a time where thornton couldn't get the ball over the plate (hell, it happened this year), but he's been pitching well lately horacio is just, wtf MacD, never know what you're going to get, he seems to vary batter to batter, same with Dotel (though as some have suggested, could be related to dead-arm/fatigue) outside of thornton, our pen scares me, I just call them the gas can right now
fathom
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Again, Ozzie has s*** to pick from unless it is Jenks or Thornton time. If this is reality, then scrap the 4 man rotation, and let our starters go as long as possible. We've already wasted two quality starts by Danks and then Buehrle due to the stupid 4 man rotation. Just go with our best "potential" relievers then in a close game. Better to lose with your best then let a bunch of non-MLB caliber pitchers lose the game for you. I consider Ramirez and Wassermann to be non-MLB caliber. Hell, even Boone is better than those guys. There must be a reason why Russell was on the big league roster more than Wassermann was this season.
LVSoxFan
We keep having chances to pull away and yet we're still stuck in 1st gear, neck-and-neck with Minnesota. And in that scenario, they win. I haven't given up yet, but if the bullpen is going to be the sieve that it was last year, we are doomed.
