southsider2k5
We always here about what people don't like about the person they won't vote for, so what about the person you are going to vote for? BigSqwert
For Obama I wish he addressed factory farming somehow like John Edwards did. Abhorrent abuse of animals aside, the amount of greenhouse gasses produced by these places are worse than the output of vehicles. I also would like to hear more discussion on public transportation but who am I kidding. Which Presidential candidate would ever make that part of their core issues? thedoctor
i do wish obama had a little more experience in the senate and on some foreign policy issues. i've liked him for awhile in terms of ideology, but before he declared i did think that perhaps he'd be a stronger candidate in 2012 than now. however, with an unpopular incumbent going out of office, this year was probably the year to run one way or another. In case you didn't know I am a vegan for 2 years now. One of the reasons I made the switch was for the environment. The fact that factory farms are completely ignored when greenhouse gas conversation is brought up really bothers me. It's one of the things that drive me nuts when I hear Al Gore speak. It's not even a factor in his discussion.

I don't really like what he's become during the general election, but that's just the reality of political campaigns. They go negative and then false promises are made. Always. I don't like his plans for so much new spending at all but I think a lot of that is just campaign BS.

southsider2k5
For McCain I really hate the embrace of the right, and his movement away from some of the stuff that made him great in 2000.
NorthSideSox72
I started a thread like this last week - 3 strengths AND weaknesses for each. Thread died a quick death. Hopefully this one is better. Here are the things I can think of, off the top of my head, I don't like about Obama (in no particular order... FISA Plans to increase taxes on multiple income brackets Plans to increase corporate taxes (I'm OK on this for oil, otherwise no) Plans to increase cap gains and dividend taxes He supports affirmative action He's not talking enough about green/open space protection (though McCain isn't either) He's not talking enough about mass transit and rail transit His lack of experience generally A few of his ads (though he hasn't been near as dishonest as McCain so far) His financial stimulus ideas, and his ideas on the financial markets as well (some of them) I'm sure there are others, but those come quickly to mind. Me too, I'm hoping that it's all campaign bulls*** and he will get back to who he was when this is over whether he wins or loses. Bmags and me were talking about ideologies on AIM the other day, I think the old-school northeastern Republicans appeal to me much more than the southern Dixiecrats do. The latter really turns me completely off of the party.

Texsox
I am disappointed in Palin as the Veep. It seemed desperate, and I have concerns about his decision making. And I don't have any specifics against her, but I liked McCain for his experience and be seemed to be discounting the very attribute I appreciated the most. And honestly, I'm hoping he dives for the left as soon as he's elected and gets back in touch with his maverick independent roots.
HuskyCaucasian
As I've made clear several times, I consider myself an independent because I tend to have far right "morals", but leftist economic and fiscal policies. So with that being said, I disagree with Obama on abortion, gay marriage (he calls them "civil unions"), and some others (I am drawing a blank mind right now). Morals was probably the wrong word. hmmm..... "hot button ethical issues" might be more appropriate? I still struggle to figure out how to appropriately describe myself. I absolutely support universal health care 100%. Have for 4+ years now. When ti comes to helping the poor, i think the welfare system needs some reform. I see too many people who are content to sit on their butt and do nothing but collect government money. EvilMonkey
I wish McCain was stronger on immigration issues. Blanket amnesty is not a good thing. And Tex, before you start jumping ion asking if I am going to encourage my kids to pick crops, I also want a workable solution to having guest workers here. I want him tougher on illegal immigration, coming up with a workable bill for the labor pool we need, and busting businesses that knowingly hire illegals. I don't feel he is doing enough on any of those fronts. I also would like a much tougher stance on drilling here, now, coupled with an aggressive stance on alternative power sources. While I think John is pushing nuke power, he isn't doing enough on all the other fronts.
Texsox
How certain are you about your employees identity? Would you bet your business those documents are legit and those people are who they claim to be? No stolen identities? Now how would you feel if these were forgeries and you were put out of business? Museums have been fooled. Way back when I was working at Harlem-Irving Plaza I mistakenly accepted a counterfeit bill, how wrong it would have been if I was held responsible. Museums have been fooled. Way back when I was working at Harlem-Irving Plaza I mistakenly accepted a counterfeit bill, how wrong it would have been if I was held responsible. Tex, there are fake ID's, and there are FAKE ID's. Yes, some forgeries are good. Do you punish people for those? Neh. But if the birth certificate of social security card looks like someone made it in their basement with an old IBM Seletric, then yeah, you punish them. KNOWINGLY is the ppint there. Some fakes are so bad, that the only way to get by is if someone wants them to. You can also get the ACLU and immigrant groups to STFU about the social secirity number check they tried to institute, but is in court now by those two groups. Employers are supposed to submit ss numbers for verification to make sure names match the numbers, but somehow the ACLU finds that to be a bad thing. And I was very sure of my guys ID's. Especially Juddlings, since he is my brother.
