Princess Dye
To me the Twins series is too important to bring back a guy who's been gone months. It's a lot easier to say w/ Wise hitting for power lately... but honestly i think that's too much of an x-factor. Seal the deal in Minnesota for post season... THEN bring c.q. back versus Cleveland at the earliest. I wouldnt want him going in cold for the playoffs. How early would you bring him back (again, assuming he's cleared and injury status aside)

ChWRoCk2
No need to push the panic button and bring CQ back. Until were only a .5 game up I'd keep him out of the lineup to let him rest for the playoffs.

Of course. There might be points during the season where we might have him hit to shake off the rust. Regardless, hes our best player, you put him in, that would be like leaving ARod out of the lineup last year. Sure, he can't produce in the playoffs but lets face it how can you bench him. greg775
If he's healthy I'd play him, though I tip my cap to Wise after tonight. Great game, Wise. CQ crowds the plate so much I don't think he'll be a strikeout king even with his timing off. I'd play him if the doctors clear him. Anybody worried his career will be short because he will get plunked in the wrist many more times as much as he crowds the plate.

Swingandalongonetoleft
Surely there has to be a way to juggle an outfield of Wise, Griffey, Dye, Swisher, and when he returns, Quentin to maximize efficiency, even if it involves pinching and defensive replacements a little earlier than you normally would. Riding the hot hand especially now is the most important thing. How about DH'ing Carlos in a game against Cleveland if we're still fighting? There's also the potential D-Town makeup game and even a tiebreaker against our beloved Twins. If we're not fighting for it anymore by the Indians series I would like to see him get 3 games worth of AB's. rpay10
As soon as he is cleared you play him...very simple ..rust or no rust ....Yea, he might have a couple bad AB'S but hopefully he will get back on the horse fast.
rventura23
Are people really expecting Quentin to come back? It seems like there are pretty low odds he will make it back by the end of the season let alone anytime in the regular season. Even if he does come back coming off a broken wrist as a power hitter means that he is probably not going to pick up where he left off. Yeah, I know this is a pennant race and we could really use our best hitter, but I think everyone's being a bit too optimistic.
lostfan
I'm having trouble understanding the question. If we aren't worried about his injury status or are otherwise disregarding it, why wouldn't you play him?
Princess Dye
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) Yeah, I know this is a pennant race and we could really use our best hitter, but I think everyone's being a bit too optimistic. Fair enough, but the Sox are obviously having these conversations just in case, so we can too. They wouldnt be doing all this medical stuff w/ Quentin if they werent at least giving it a shot. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) I'm having trouble understanding the question. If we aren't worried about his injury status or are otherwise disregarding it, why wouldn't you play him? Because the question is would you debut him in the Minnesota series when he could be super rusty. while Wise is currently hitting for power, laying down bunts, speed, some d, etc. Other option is trying to seal the deal in Minny w/o him, and then use him in Cleveland to get him a little time to acclimate. (well option 3 would be debut him in the playoffs, but that doesnt really apply here since no one would have a non-injury related reason for doing that) Edited September 20, 2008 by Princess Dye

The Ginger Kid
in case anyone missed the update over the weekend.... Carlos Quentin hates watching, but that's all he can do while rehabbing By Mark Gonzales | Chicago Tribune reporter September 20, 2008 KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Carlos Quentin said he is more at ease trying to return quickly from a right wrist fracture than having to watch his White Sox teammates struggle this week in New York. Quentin rejoined his teammates Friday and took some light swings with an exercise stick for the first time since injuring the wrist on Sept. 1. Quentin said his wrist felt tight, but the pain was only minimal. "That's good for right now," said Quentin, who still leads the Sox with 36 home runs and 100 RBIs. Bigger tests await Quentin, which still make his return this season a long shot. "I would be extremely happy to make it back for the playoffs, given that opportunity," Quentin said. "We are not going to put a time frame on it. "We are going to push as much as we can and just use what we have [Friday] and [saturday] as building blocks to get me back where I can perform and have my health not questioned as far as reinjuring it. We want to get to that point where we are confident we can sustain playing the game." When not performing range-of-motion exercises, Quentin is trying various healing methods. "I have different vitamins, different remedies," Quentin said. "I called several nutritionists and several dietitians and trainers to get vitamins and stuff like that. We have the bone stimulator going, the hyperbaric chamber. We are exhausting every resource possible right now. In that sense, my mind is at ease that we are doing everything we can." Quentin admitted he's not a patient observer. "I tune in to see the score, but I don't want to," Quentin said. "It's hard to sit there and watch those games. It's almost like I would rather sit there and watch the ticker and see when the score changes."

greg775
Quentin sounds like the rest of us when it comes to watching this last couple of weeks. Sure does. I don't remember being this scared in '05 but I'm sure I was. Mariotti was reminding us of the monumental collapse he was hoping the Sox would fulfill.
