gosox41
Why not stick BA in CF while Wise stays in left? Right now BA is more productive offensivle then Swish and Griffey on Astroturf makes me nervous. Griffey isn't exactly hitting the cover off the ball either. At least Anderso gives you better D and he can lay down a bunt more often then those two guys. Heck, after watching the Sox flail away the last 2 games, I'd consider moving Owens in CF. We've already proven we can't beat Minny in Minny with our power hitting line up. To play 2 struggling hitters who can't bunt, run, or play great defense in that stadium is kind of ridiculous IMHO. I think it's something Ozzie should seriously consider for the Minnesota series. It's only one line up change. While we're at it, I'd consider DHing Griffey i/o Thome as Thome has struggled a lot as of late. That being said, if Swish or Griffey were hitting better, I would never be posting this. But since they're not, the Sox still have 6 other hitters in the line up who can flail away whilese swinging for the fences.

Griffey and Swish provide nothing offensively right now. The extra defense in the dome is worth it. Play smart, defense before guys who cant hit and cant play defense. Jake
I love BA, I won't argue if Griff plays. I'll be so pissed when BA goes someplace and becomes a well above average CFer.
BearSox
As of now, BA should be in CF with Wise in LF, with Swish not even coming close to the lineup and Griffey being the first bat off the bench.
greg775
This is a great thread. I would think a reporter in previewing the game would or should ask Oz about playing BA in center for defense. How has Swish done out there in the dome this season? I would assume Griffey will be a disaster out there.
Felix
I've been calling for it for weeks. There is absolutely no excuse for Griffey to still be in the lineup, especially when Buehrle is on the mound. Griffey is a terrible hitter and terrible fielder. Seriously, if there is any reason to put him in the lineup other than his play during the 1990s, please, please tell me. I will be disgusted if BA is not in CF on Wednesday in Buehrle's biggest start of the season.
The Ginger Kid
hmm...I wouldn't mind the '05 junior (.301, 35 HRs)...or even '07 wasn't that bad (.277, 30 HRs). Certainly he's not the player he once was, but even at 38, he still knows how to play baseball. I'd like to see BA out there over Swisher, no doubt, but instead of griffey? maybe in the late innings, with a lead.
joejoesox
What do you guys think? Have we seen the last game of AJ hitting in the 2-hole? D-Weezy has seemed, at least for now, to solidify that part of the lineup for the better I personally hope we don't see AJ batting any higher than 6th or 7th anymore
caulfield12
I don't mind Griffey playing LF or RF, would rather see Wise in CF if Griffey is going to play. Maybe I'm sentimental, but I just think Thome and Griffey should prove in the first game or two they can't get it done before benching either of them. Konerko should be playing everyday, and maybe Swisher will get a start based on Sunday, but I think Thome/Griffey might come through big...at least I want to believe it will happen. lostfan
There is no reason whatsoever for Anderson to not be playing CF and batting 9th in this series. None.
RockRaines
Honestly, if BA plays everyday I think you see the player we thought we had in 06.
BlackBetsy
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) I love BA, I won't argue if Griff plays. I'll be so pissed when BA goes someplace and becomes a well above average CFer. I don't understand what is to love out BA. He's an outstanding defensive centerfielder - probably in the top 5 or 10 in the league. But he strikes out in more than 25% of his at bats, and doesn't hit with enough power or average to compensate. He's had essentially a full season of at bats at this point and he's .222 / .277 / .382. And he's not young anymore. He's 26 and should be in his prime. I just don't see where BA goes up from here unless he is really just a "change of scenery" guy and can go somewhere like Washington or Cincinnati or San Diego and play in the Suck League. It has less to do with BA himself and more to do with the fact that Griffey, as much as everybody loves him, has contributed nothing offensively or defensively. Offensively, both BA and Wise have blown him away since he's been here.
Steve9347
Of course BA should be in CF, but Ozzie will never give him another chance to be the full-time starter.

Offensively, both BA and Wise have blown him away since he's been here. Griffey has added very little power, that's for sure, and his defense is suspect. I don't have much of an argument about putting defense on the field against the Twins. I would probably just play Griffey for as long as the Twins' righty starter is in and pull Griffey when you get to the Twins bullpen. I really wish we had TCQ for this series. And a healthy Joe Crede.
