A Bright Spot

Rooftop Shots

Recommended Posts

I'll probably get ragged on for this thread, but here goes!

If there is some positive hope among all of the emotional lows as of now, here's something to ponder. In 05' we also had a pretty dismal September. Bats were cold, we weren't playing with "aggression to win", but instead, playing as "trying not to lose". Everybody was cold. It looked just like it does now. Once we got into the playoffs, the pressure to do so subsided, and the team played with aggression again, and had a new breath of fresh air, and we played like our team was cabable of and the bats got hot again, along with the pitching.

(I can only hope that it repeats itself this year and this thread will be looked upon in the future as "way to give us something to hang on to when we were in our doll-drums,.....instead of "Hey Rooftop.......wake up....smell the coffee............ and get a life. Open your eyes! We're dead meat!!!" You should be banned from posting for your insane daydreaming)

Well, one more daydream before I ragged on and ..............get kicked off.......

Another point, Boston wins Series, 1916, we win 1917, they win 1918, we (technically should have won) 1919,

They win 2004, we win 2005, they win 2007, >>>>>>>>>>>> 2008????????? And 2008, we are in the same position that we were in in 2005.

Here's a bright spot. Here's how the Minnesota paper wrote up the game, not exactly the tone of believing the Twins deserve to win the division:

By Joe Christensen

Star Tribune (Minneapolis)

(MCT)

MINNEAPOLIS — The White Sox might still hold on to win the AL Central, but they can’t clinch at the Metrodome.

The Twins saved themselves from having to watch Chicago celebrate in their beloved indoor playground with their 9-3 victory Tuesday night in the first game of this pivotal three-game series.

An announced crowd of 35,225 at the Dome watched the Twins trim Chicago’s lead to 1 1/2 games, while looking nothing like their alter egos, who struggled to a 35-46 road record.

Jason Kubel led the offense with two home runs, and Scott Baker overcame his past struggles against the White Sox, holding them to one run in seven innings.

The Twins are 50-26 at home, including 6-1 against Chicago.

All I can say is pray we win one of the next two games, and hope Meche and Grienke display the Cy Young 'stuff' that they've exhibited in their games against the White Sox, meanwhile hoping we can scratch together a couple from the red-hot Tribe

We have a 1.5 game lead, but right now it's more like the division is tied with the twins with them having homefield advantage (and what an advantage.....) for the next two games

This team is a joke right now, except I'm not talking about the funny kind

I don't believe in that whole re-run of Boston winning last season and then us winning the following year just because there is a similar trend to way back.

A team is looked upon at how well it is built. Teams like the Angels, D-Rays, and Boston have several ways of trying to win a game. They have pitching, defense, and just enough offense to put together a showing of potential to go deep into a pennant race. For the White Sox to emerge as a contender they need to rely on someone to hit the ball out of the park. Granted that we are 16 games above .500 and lead the majors in HR's, you can throw those stats out the window once October is here.

There wasnt that many people at the game, that place was half empty.

35k was the total. I'd say that was about right, I wouldn't really call it empty. It's going to be a lot fuller and louder tonight though, as it's student night (and dollar dog day!).

we have mark and gavin going the next two games. im not worried

Me either as long as we have the Mark B show up that can shut down the Twins offense and hold runners and not the one that gives up 14 hits in 5 or 6 innings. The same goes for Floyd. We need sharpness and not allow 3 homers to the Twinkies. I feel better though with Mark Buerhle tonight as his history shows he can step up in the big game situations.

I'm worried about Mark and Gavin. Its typically the start following a shortened outing where a pitcher will suffer a serious dead arm period. Ozzie was a f***ing idiot for going on 3 days rest. Yes, I'll continue to say it cause I said it at the time he decided to make that brilliant move.

You ass...I just posted the same thing in the Javy thread. BTW, remember how we felt the team would loosen up and roll in the playoffs in 2005? If this team makes the playoffs this year, I don't get that same feeling at all.

I have two opinions on this team if they make the playoffs and it depends on how they get in. If they got in because of strong play in Minneosta I think they could just gel. In fact, I think a 100% White Sox team is the best team in the AL. I say that based upon the way the other teams are playing. Rays have a horrendous pen, Angels pitching is falling apart, BoSox don't have the starting (imo).

The problem is I just can't see the Sox getting back to 100% and the only way they could get even close to that is to win the next two in Minny and than the first game in Cleveland and than get 2 days off which will enable them to get all the starters/relievers fully rested and the rotation lined up for the post-season.

I just don't see the Sox getting in that easily, but hopefully Mark and Gavin man up and kick ass. More importantly I hope the offense can come out blazing and give the team big leads in both games.

I think the Rays will have a great pen come the playoffs, as they will mostly pitch only Balfour and Howell. Percival won't be used in close situations. They also have the wildcard in David Price. I will say that if CQ and Linebrink were 100 pct healthy, then the Sox would have as good of a chance as anyone. We just have too many players who have hit the wall (AJ and Dye).

Well, the vent thread has 99 entries at the moment, while this one has a dozen. Guess that sums up where fans who write on Sox talk are at the moment.

Is there a bright spot? If so, where would it be?

The only thing I can come up with is our pitching staff. Mark Buerhle and Gavin Floyd starting the next two games. Those two guys could win us this series, and do everything but finish off the Twins.

I wouldn't give up yet.
