Here's a thought. If McCain can't make the debate, then wouldn't it make sense to send his #2 in his stead?

Palin v Obama debate?

I mean, she is ready to lead, so a debate about presidential type stuff should be right up her alley.

We adapt. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Well, that is impressive (and slightly terrifying).

for future versions i would recommend using a declarative coding scheme, with a realization of this code being accomplished with PROLOG. The perfect logical programming language for this task as there is a only a single data type, yet complex relations can be defined. imperative programming, progressive indeed.

A couple of those media insider places this morning are running with thoughts of this scenario:

Democrats fear this morning that McCain is setting up a scenario in which he will vote against the bill, rally conservatives to his side and, most importantly, distance himself from both President Bush and Congress before the election.

that would ruin his whole story of "need to get something done fast", hence the reason for him missing the debates etc. that'd be perfectly fine if he did that in my book.

On that part I'd agree...not because I think it would hurt him, but because it would derail the wall street free money train.

Bush kind of took the wind out of his sails on that possibility last night. If he's stopping his campaign, going to meet with everyone, issue a joint statement with Obama, and actually negotiate - and then not support the bill he stopped everything for? Would kind of prove Obama's point that stopping a campaign isn't the right tact wouldn't it?

He could come out and blame it on those dastardly democrats and their additions to the bills.

Apparently only a few hours:

McCain Spokesman Tucker Bounds:

Before John McCain suspended his campaign yesterday, the situation that we're looking at today looked very different then. After he showed leadership and called for bipartisanship, for us to partisanship aside and tackle this solution head on, here we are. And we're going into a debate, I think we're going there strong.

So, aside from heading back to washington, choosing Couric over Letterman, and trying to get the VP debate canceled, what has Senator McCain done to actually suspend his campaign? His ads are still running. None of his campaign offices have different instructions from what they had yesterday. The Senator still made his Clinton Global Initiative speech this morning. The Senator will still (Along with Senator Obama) appear on all 3 national newscasts tonight.

What exactly does "Suspending one's campaign" entail?
