The magic # could have been ..... 1

Hold on to a 6-1 lead in Minny and only give up 7 runs vs the Indians and we would have had the champagne lined up in the locker tomorrow.

Buehrle could have skipped a start Sunday, Ozzie could have set his rotation without any more of this 3 days rest crap and the bullpen could have received a break. The only way things can look up is if we go 2-0 and Minny goes 0-2.

Because even if we do come out of the weekend and get to play detroit,

look at this situation.

Sat Javy pitches on 3 days rest

Sun Mark pitches on 3 days rest

Mon (if we're fortunate to get there) Gavin pitches on 3 days rest

Tue (if we're fortunate to get there) Danks pitches on 3 days rest

Wed (if we're some fortunate SOBS) "Big Game" Javy pitches on 3 days rest 2 starts in a row game 1 of the ALDS?

:crying

I'm starting to think it might be better not to make the playoffs and just shut Danks and Floyd down. The staff obviously knew something when they sat him out for over a week prior to his KC start.

The Twins have also announced they WON'T start Liriano on 3 day's rest and they will go with Blackburn on Tuesday, if there is a Tuesday.

On paper, the White Sox have the edge in match-ups tomorrow, with Meche/Perkins (skipped in their rotation) and Vazquez/Zachster. Which undoubtedly means we'll lose tomorrow and the Twins will win. Then the opposite will occur Sunday, well, just because it's Brandon Duckworth going for the Royals, and the Twins SHOULD beat him.

The funny thing would be if Bullington got his first major league victory against the Sox on Sunday.

Seven losses in nine games...it would be more amazing if the Sox won one game in the playoffs.

It's always better to make the playoffs. It's what they play for (aside from zillions of dollars that arguably have changed big leaguers' attitudes for the worse) and why we cheer as fans.

We aren't going to make the playoffs, trust me, but it is way better to make the playoffs. Why else be fans or players?

I'm surprised with all the doom and gloom you actually want to see the White Sox in the playoffs at all.

Well, remember what happened with the Jayhawks in the final game? Did you turn off the t.v. set in the final five minutes or leave it on?

I just hope, with all of our starters absolutely gassed, that there are no consequences down the line...look what all those playoff appearances and overuse did to Hudson, Mulder and Zito. Now Buerhle is the only one to put up a really high pitch count, nearing anything in the vicinity of what Baker did to Prior and Wood, and I'm sure he will be there tomorrow to take the bump even at 75%, because that's the way Buehrle is, a battler, a better version of the Bulldog, Greg Hibbard.

There was a lot of concern here about 6 weeks ago about Danks and his arm. He went to the coaching staff, apparently, and said he was having some problems...which is one of the main reasons he was given over a week before his last start in KC. Notice the Twins, if they go to a game Tuesday, have already declared they won't use Liriano on short rest, even though they would have to start Blackburn instead.

Its always best to make the playoffs. Who says if the Sox win their next 3 or 4 games to get there they won't go on a roll? Something in the bullpen is going to have to click quickly. They blow a 5 run lead Thursday and score 8 on Friday and lose. Winning those and we all would have been going over playoff match-ups right now.

But the Twins could say the same thing about winning a start at home with Liriano on the mound. I wasn't expecting the Twins to lose last night, I thought the White Sox had a 50/50 chance of winning.

Today, I would say the Twins should lose because of Perkins versus Meche, which means the opposite will happen. Which also means our entire season is riding on someone who is probably looking at his mutual fund ROI rather than being upset like we are at soxtalk.

I thought the fan with the "I cried myself to sleep last night" poster had it right...today there were no more tears or anger, just a growing realization or deadened feeling that nothing else that happens with faze me in the least, whether it's positive or negative. There's a 33% we get there, a 66% chance we don't.

Scenarios:

1) Sox win the next 2, Twins lose the next 2- we clinch on sunday.

2) Sox win next 2, Twins win next 2- Sox would be forced to play Detroit on Monday to force a 1 game playoff on Tuesday.

3) Sox win 1, Twins win 1- see above

4) Sox win 1, Twins win 2- Twins clinch on sunday

5) Sox lose 2, Twins lose 2- see #2

6) Sox win 2, Twins win 1- Sox would play Detroit with oppurtunity to clinch on monday

7) Sox lose 2, Twins win 1- Twins clinch on sunday

Im hoping for either scenarios 1 (which realisticly probably wont happen), or 6 which can realisticly happen. The most likely scenario is 3 or 4.

"It's just one of those things where you're so close to making the playoffs, but you don't look like a playoff team, and that kind of wears on you," Paul Konerko said after Friday's loss. "But that doesn't matter, it's what the standings say and that's all that matters. We can make the playoffs. You figure the team that makes it has got to be pretty battle-tested."

The Royals have a little race of their own going, and they, too, held onto a half-game lead -- in their case for fourth place over the Detroit Tigers, who also won.

Yes, Royals manager Trey Hillman admitted to some scoreboard watching.

"Absolutely," Hillman said. "I followed Detroit, I followed Chicago and Cleveland. I would doubt that I looked at it as much as the other dugout did, but I certainly have an interest."

Have to give the Royals credit... not only do they not want to finish in last, but they want to play a major role in who wins the AL Central. Keep it going KC we appreciate all your efforts!

We need a win tonight for sure and that will guarantee a Monday game if the Twink lose right? hat onday game is inevitable as long as there is only 1/2 game separating both teams. We need Vazquez to show his stuff and not leave us wondering if he really is a big game pitcher or not

Yeah if we happened to win today and they happened to lose today, we'd get a Monday game unless we happened to win Sunday and they happened to lose Sunday. Bottom line is yesterday's loss was huge.

It is what it is. With the way the Sox have played in September it truly is a blessing that they are still alive and have an oppurtunity to be in 1st going into the final day of the season. Why not make the best out of it... today is our last best chance to regain 1st. The Royals have Meche going today, while the Indians have Lee going tommorow. If we win today while the Twinkies somehow lose, we are garunteed to be alive going into Monday.

Good comparison. I don't know why the Sox fade got to me. As happy as I was when we swept Detroit, the fact we lost 3 of 4 to NY and the sweep by the Twins really got to me for some reason. I don't know why I feel so unconfident in the Sox's chances. I do want us in the playoffs. Your post is helping me snap out of this depression. We only gotta win two games to get to Monday!

Could of been, should of been, would of been. Ahhhh! Thinking what this team could be doing tonight is pissing me off. Our players could be spraying the crowd with campaign tonight if we had played good ball in the past week. Not even good ball, just .500 ball.
