Just got the LCD TV, now I am wondering whether to stay with the dish or go to Comcast. What do you guys think?

I have DirecTV, a friend has Comcast. Both are fine, though I like DirecTV more because the HD-DVR unit is better quality, and the menus are much easier to navigate. A lot depends on where your house is, and if you have a clear view of the southern sky, though. The dish might have to be mounted somewhere where it'd be an eyesore (I speak from experience). Also, if you have internet or phone service through Comcast, it's probably cheaper to get TV through them as well.

So, I guess I'd say go with DirecTV, unless you have Comcast for other things, or can't mount the dish in a good spot.

I have directv, but do not get any local HD Channel, check that barely any HD Channels.

Comcast seems like more HD Friendly, no??

Nope. DirecTV I believe has the most HD channels or is just right behind Dish Network. Anyway, after having both, just in terms of cable/dish service and not their customer service, I would say Comcast barely barely gets the slight edge because it's OnDemand is further along than DirecTV's who are introducing their's barely. Other than that, the picture quality on HD and the DVR are far far better on DirecTv.

I love Comcast, its great for HD and it gives you tons of options On Demand. The signal went out maybe one time in the past year for a brief period and that it something that is almost impossible with any dish services.

The only thing I think Comcast can improve on is its DVR space that it gives you.Any HD recordings take up a ton of your available space.

I'm backing up Comcast on this one. :)

I've had an LCD television for a while and it's been programed with Comcast only. You don't have to worry about no storm or strong winds interfering with the service and their On-Demand is up-to-date to the minute. And what I mean by that is that you can pretty much watch new releases when they come out on DVD.

The Internet is blazing fast and those TV ad's saying that they don't stop making fast faster is no lie. I have wire-less internet on my labtop and I have never gone wrong with having any mulfunctioning situation with connecting online.

As for the digital voice (home phone service) I've only had it for about a month and the only reason why I have it is because the offer that I had before was up and they offered to keep a relatively close package to my previous one if I were to add phone service. So I went with it and it's been nice so far. The home phone thing had been an absence for quite a while since all that is used in my family are cellphone's.

I have been told that HD through Directv is not as good as comcast because of the satellite feed vs the cable feed. Is there any truth to that?

I would say yes.I have comcast and my grandfather has Directv and IMO my HD is alot better. My grandfather also agrees with this statement. It could be that I have better HDMI cords but I highly doubt that, they are all the same except for the price if you ask me.

We had the dish for a while now including the time a few weeks ago when all the rain crushed the chicago area. It was one of the worst storms I remember for a while and i kept expecting to lose the dish feed but surprisingly I never did. Maybe I just got lucky but during those 3 or 4 days it never went out.

It depends on your signal strength, if anything is blocking your dish(trees, poles), and also what direction the storm is coming from. Sometimes you just get lucky when storms hit

Comcast is the devil. If I could switch to satellite (I'm in a condo, no dishes allowed), I would do it in a heartbeat. Comcast charges a lot (don't be lured in by their 12 month promotional periods - rates after that are significantly higher!), doesn't seem to offer anything more than satellite (I don't find much use for OnDemand), and their customer service is awful.

I have even more problems with my internet service. It's 50/50 if it'll work at any given time without having to cycle the modem. Several techs and hours on phone support haven't resolved the issue. Oh, and they have monthly caps now, too.

I believe there is more compression on satellite signals due to bandwidth vs. channels issues. You might notice a slight difference in picture on two identical sets, but I don't know for sure.

Rock, what do you use ondemand for most of the time? I don't really use ondemand at all, I mainly just access my recorded stuff on the DVR. Maybe I'm missing something.

We watch movies available from the premium package we have(HBO and Encore) and the free movie channels, my wife watches lots of reality show reruns ondemand(survivor, big brother, etc). there is some good stuff in there if you look for it

Don't buy the BS. DirectTv and Dish are both a lot more expensive if you plan on having multiple HD TV's plus DVR's. Purchasing equipment is freaking expensive. I can't comment on Comcast specifically, my dad has it out here in SoCal and I'm not a fan (Cox is just way better) but as a whole I think its better than DirectTV (at least for the money).

Now if you aren't going HD and are just using regular tv's, no dvr's, etc....DirectTv is way cheaper. If they ever wanted to not charge 300 f***ing bucks for one HD DVR (let alone a 2nd) than they might have a shot (cause they do offer tons of great programming options and sports packs).

Old TV shows- Silver spoons etc, other recent shows are on there too. I watch premium channels shows like Entourage, Sopranos, Oz. I never had to DVR Big Brother because the episode from the night before always shows up on OnDemand the next day. Even series like Band of Brothers will be on there from tim eto time which ensures that I wont be leaving the house that day. Theres TONS of stuff on there, just gotta look around.
