ChiSox_Sonix
It mentions using Jose as a reliever next year. I think at this point in his career, if he is willing, he would make a fine late inning guy. Plus, its the best way to keep him healthy. He certainly has the kind of stuff that if you saw it coming out of the bullpen you'd just tip your hat and sit down, even on a bad day he can ace a few guys, which is kind of what you want out of the pen. The worry with him in the pen though has always been that he probably had the longest pregame routine of any of the Sox pitchers, lotta long toss, warming up his fingers for the forkball by throwing a softball, etc.

I don't knwo if I'd want to see him come in with the game on the line and runners on base. That forkball ends up at the backstop if he's "off". Steve9347
Let's get back on topic. If we can somehow come back and beat the Rays, an extremely tough task... and the Red Sox hold on against the Angels... we'll have TCQ back and home field advantage. It's asking a lot, but that would really set up as well as possible for the White Sox.

rangercal
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) So because he makes 10 million, he should be forced into starting? It's all moot. I'll be shocked if Contreras is back by August next year. No. Where did I say that? Bringing him back as a middle reliver should be our last option. Option 1. Try to trade him for a bag of baseballs to a team desperate for pitching (even if it means throwing cash from our end) Option 2. See what he can do as a starter Option 3. We go with the 10 million dollar reliever.

Richard *might* be ready, but who pitches in the #5 spot? I'll take another year of Javy in the #4 spot. He wins regular-season games and eats innings, which are pretty helpful when you're trying to GET into the playoffs.
