Princess Dye
Do Murph and Boers/Bernstein actually hate each other? Or is it all an act on the part of B&B? Has this ever been addressed on air, anyone know? Boers hit him pretty hard just now. And Berns/Murph come from two total opposite ends of the spectrum. Someone here use to intern, so they can give you the inside scoop, but remembering a few past posts and speaking with my brother-in-law who somehow knows the Boers family, the Boers/Murph feud is legit. The Critic
Simply judging by their on-air personas: Bernstein seems to be an insufferable asshole. Boers seems to be that little cartoon dog who runs around the bigger dog, egging him on. Murphy seems to be a hypersensitive wimp. I could definitely see how they wouldn't get along. The one thing I will say, however, is that Bernstein seems partially an on-air persona that cant be that insufferable in real life. As evidenced by him taming it town when he temporarily replaced Dan Patrick on the syndicated show. Whereas Murph and Boers seem to be the real projection of their real selves --- but obviously I cant confirm that assumption - you just get that sense. I agree that Bernstein could be dialing it up for the show, but he also seems to carry a smugness about himself. He's not a likable character, at least the character he presents publicly. I find it funny a lot of the time, in large part because they are such jerks. I just don't take any of their opinions very seriously at all. It's just a schticky afternoon radio show to me. It's MUCH more enjoyable than the Mac, Jurko and Harry show. That show is just weak, and Jurkovic is the worst radio personality in Chicago by a mile. If i dealt with some of those assclowns all day, I'd have the same attitude. I love how Bernstein carries himself on air. When Bernstein wants to talk about the nuts and bolts of a particular game or sport, he's as good as anyone out there. It doesn't happen every day or every hour, but it's there. I love B&B, more the Bernstein than the Boers. Boers doesn't add nearly as much to the show, Bernstein carries it.

What I don't like is the way Bernstein will try to paint a caller as an idiot if the caller doesn't agree with his opinion. Still, I'd say their show is one of my favorites. My favorite host overall is Brian Paruch - I really like his style. I listen to him whenever I happen across his show. That guy must have an apartment above the studio, he seems to always be there. Thats my only gripe with Bernstein, how dismissive he is of differing opinions. And when he is called out on it, he gets worse. But I really like his interview style, and he can be pretty funny at times. I dont believe Boers is as bad as everyone says he is, in regards to being the cartoon dog, i just think he is comfortable and sitting back and having a good time playing the village idiot. Paruch is ALWAYS on the air. He does shifts on 101.9 as well.
Brian
B&B is probably my favorite sports show in Chicago. I do have to take breaks from them sometimes. When they play, "The Score, hello?", I laugh consistently. And I agree with others, I like when they keep a caller on and rip him and milk it. It's great radio. I think Murph knows he will get fired. B&B are the biggest show that station has and Murph doesn't get along with anyone on that station anymore since North left. Even Steve Stone sounds annoyed when he's on with Murph. The only think I like about Murph is that he will talk baseball in the winter. Harry Chappas
If anyone listened to Bernstein on Friday afternoon when they were discussing fighting in hockey it was hte most condesending piece of crap I had ever heard. You could tell he does not liek hockey and this was his way of telling us. How he can lovethe NBA is beyond me. I really do not like either afternoon show. HuskyCaucasian
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Do Murph and Boers/Bernstein actually hate each other? I'll preface this as someone who interned at the Score for a summerr 4 years ago. Murph is not well liked by anyone. He's very full of himself. I was interning for North (that's a story in and off itself). I was asked to create the opening sequence to his JagBag segment. I included a caller JagBagging Murph because it was funny. I was told by the producers to never ever use a JagBag of Murph again because they didnt want Murph storming in and b****ing them out. BandB also hated North. It's a long story. But they once spent a commercial break talking about how Mike doesnt give his producers much of a chance to have "up ward mobility". Basically saying he wont allow his producers to be creative and advance themselves. BandB, on the other hand, have had a TON of their producers go on to do other things within the station and around the country. I have a few other stories, but I cant really comment on the on the record. Some of you have heard my rants about JenJen before. He knows what he believes and he wont allow you to get awa with fluffy BS on the air. I'm in agreement. In general, he elevates the conversation because radio should be something different. If guys are just talking and going unchecked, then it's just sports conversation which is available for free in pretty much every bar or business in Chicago. Whereas bringing an intellectual level to it makes a unique, worthwhile product. And of course people are welcome to not tune in if they dislike it. The thing with B&B is it has the intellectual but also with Boers the 6 year old humor dimension. When it gets intolerant or slanderous towards certain groups in society...I have somewhat of a problem with it. But it's talk radio - you cant go in expecting it to be reined in, and the power of the caller is to get on the line and point out where they're out of line or wrong.
