Gimme Your Grades Please

How bout some grades for the Sox's performance this season.

Here are mine. I'm sure I'll forget some players. It was a wildly emotional year for the fans and I'm sure Oz and KW. ...

1B - Paulie C- Sorry Paulie, tough year for you, almost gave ya a D.

2B - Lexi A.

SS - OC B- I don't like the guy much but he was OK. I must admit despite some of his bobbles I felt good when a ball was hit at short, hope we can say the same next year with Lexi.

3B - Crede - C. He was hurt.

Uribe - C. He stunk early, did pretty well for a spell, then didn't hit much late.

LF - Carlos - A plus. Team MVP of course.

Wise - C. Sparked us with speed and some big hits but really isn't an everyday player.

CF - Swish C-. Like Paulie almost gave him a D.

Griffey - C. Had a chance to get a second wind on his career and carry us to a title. Too old and slow to do that. Didn't hit many bombs. Good try, KW but it didn't work much.

RF - Dye. A. What a stud he is.

DH - Thome - B. Thanks for beating Minnie. Despite criticism is still a damn good DH. I am sick of the shift. Sometimes wonder what would happen if he just tried to hit grounders to third and take a single every time.

C - AJP. B. I'd give him an A-minus but he seems to not be able to ever throw out a guy anymore. Gotta love him, though. I think he had the play of the year hanging onto that throw against Minnie. Dont know how he held onto the ball.

Toby - C. He ain't very good.

Mark Buehrle - B.

Javy - C-minus. F for the last month or so.

Floyd - A. Wish ya would have pitched better in your last outing, sir.

Danks - A. Nice job young man.

Jose - C-minus. I think you are done, Jose.

Richard - Incomplete but some very nice moments.

Jenks - A.

Dotel - C. I guess he got tired. Some dominating outings; some horrific ones. Personally I dislike the guy. It's my preference as a fan.

Thornton - B. Pitched well at the end.

Linebrink - B. Got hurt, too bad.

Logan - D-minus. He is sooo bad. But he is young. Maybe he should learn the knuckler.

MacD - F. He just sucks, folks. Maybe he should learn the knuckler. He's pretty tall. Can he learn how to play right field like that guy on the Cardinals Ankiel?

Carrasco - B-minus. But doesn't belong in a Chisox uniform next year.

Ramirez - D. He just isn't a big league pitcher.

Fields - Incomplete, poor guy's body is falling apart.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some players. Just wanted to get the thread started.

My MVP: Carlos.

My Least VP: Swish (from what I thought we were getting).

My MVP pitcher: Jenks.

My least VP pitcher - Gotta go with Logan for his lefthanded meatballs to righties and lefties alike. I do think Dotel however is one who bugs me the most. I feel like he has the potential to be dominant; but he's pretty much an enigma to me.

p.s. I think it'd be cool if you all put comments after your grades like I tried to do. I'd enjoy reading 'em. I respect your opinions and it'd be neat to read them.

1B - Paulie C- Injured a lot, but not very good when he wasn't

2B - Lexi A. What a find.

SS - OC B Seems to be in decline - limited range..can't handle a cutoff throw to save his life

3B - Crede - Incomplete.

Uribe - B. He saved our season when Crede went down.

LF - Carlos - A . Team MVP yes, but self destructed at the end.

Wise - C. 'Sparked us with speed and some big hits but really isn't an everyday player'-Agreed.

CF - Swish D-. Complete dud. Poor acqisition Miscat in the lineiup order and in the field.. Never has been that good of a player.

Griffey - C. 'Had a chance to get a second wind on his career and carry us to a title. Too old and slow to do that. Didn't hit many bombs. Good try, KW but it didn't work much' Agreed- PLease decline the option.

RF - Dye. B. Dissapointing September

DH - Thome - B. Only gets a B because other DHs in the league suck.

C - AJP. B. Seems to decline in the second half, which is why we need a better backup

Toby - C. 'He ain't very good'-Agreed- See comment above.

Mark Buehrle - B+ Great finish.

Javy - D Awful finish.

Floyd - A-. Good this year, but I expect a falloff next year.

Danks - A. Nice job young man.

Jose - C-minus. 'I think you are done, Jose- Yes he is, Except for that $10 million contract next year.

Richard - 'Incomplete but some very nice moments' Agreed - Need sto work on some things but I like his potential..

Jenks - A-

Dotel - C. The Sybil of relief pitchers

Thornton - B.

Linebrink - B. Itchy about his long term deal given his injury.

Logan - F- This may be a lost cause for the Sox. He will come back with another team and have success..

MacD - F. More dead money in 2009

Carrasco - B-. Caught lightening in a bottle at the right time (when Linebrink went down)

Ramirez - F. 'He just isn't a big league pitcher'- Agreed.

Fields - Incomplete, 'poor guy's body is falling apart' Agreed.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some players. Just wanted to get the thread started.

My MVP: Carlos.

My Least VP: Swish (from what I thought we were getting).

My least VP pitcher - Gotta go with Logan for his lefthanded meatballs to righties and lefties alike. I do think Dotel however is one who bugs me the most. I feel like he has the potential to be dominant; but he's pretty much an enigma to me.

Around the horn:

PK: D. Injury just isn't an excuse.

Alexei: A.

Cabrera: B-. Better down the stretch than most people, but still a step back from how he played in Anaheim.

Crede: D. Injury just isn't an excuse, especially when you're still recovering from a surgery you should have had 10 months earlier but you didn't because you listened to Boras.

Uribe: C. Did his job as a backup. Not a failure, nothing to write home about.

Dye: B. Struggled too much down the stretch, otherwise a nice season.

Swisher: F. There's no way to spin this as anything but a total failure of a season for him. He was just a disaster.

Quentin: A. Yowza. Don't hurt your wrist next year, please for god's sake.

AJ: B. Good job overall, weaker on D but you know what you're getting.

Thome: B. Solid season from Jim.

Griffey: D+. He made that throw home against the Twins.

Pitchers:

MB: B+. Normal Mark Buehrle.

Gavin Floyd: B+. Helped out a lot by run support, but was basically our best big game pitcher all year.

John Danks: A. I hope the innings don't catch up to him, he was great.

Javier Vazquez: D. He threw some innings.

Jose Contreras: D. Injury is no excuse.

Lance Broadway: C. Good start or two.

Clayton Richard: B. Unexpectedly solid.

Bullpen:

Jenks: B+. Still a little room for improvement, but hard to complain.

Linebrink: C. Half a dominant season, half non-existent.

Dotel: C. You never knew what you'd get any time he was out there.

Thornton: B+. Could never figure out how he kept it up.

Logan: D. How do you have 2 months where you give up an ERA below 1 followed by 2 months with an ERA over 15?

Carrasco: B+ where did he come from? I'll take it. Very "Twins like" discovery of a solid innings guy.

Ramirez: C. Eh.

Others:

BA: B. Better than expected with the bat, still hasn't gotten a chance to show off anything new. Deserves a shot next eyar.

Wise: B. Not an every day player, but some big hits.

Hall: C. He had a good month with the bat this year.

Owens: A+. Most useful injury EVER.

Fields: F. Needs to stay healthy.

Hall- D, Boring

Thome- B, He hits bombs.

Quentin- A, don't hit yourself with your bat next year.

Seems like everyone is still over willingly accepting to give CQ a mulligan for putting himslef before the team. Don't get me wrong, if he doesn't have the year he did/could have, we wouldn't even be close to sniffing the playoffs. However, if he wouldn;t have been so damn selfish you might be STILL playing. He hurt the team when we needed him most in an unexcusable act. That being said, the man is our future, and I won't lose any sleep by White Sox fans giving the man an A for the effort on his unfinished season.

You've never seen a player hit his bat in frustration? Quentin's fracture was bad luck and I'd blame it on nothing pretty else.

Yeah, it was unfortunate he got hurt hitting the bat with his hand. But he's not selfish or anything. It was just an unfortunate accident.

Too bad, too, cause he was capable of really sparking us obviously.

I hope it wasn't just one magical season for him and CQ can build on this.

p.s. Any h.s. football experts in here? Can my Bro. Rice team defeat St. Rita this week? Any projected outcome to give me?

TCQ: A-

Is the 'minus' for him hurting himself in a way that could have been avoided or the one stretch when he slumped for 30 at bats or so?

That's a tough grade. He's about as sold an A as they come.

I think a lot of us would be giving Q 110/100 scores if he hadn't hurt himself. Maybe even higher depending on his performance in the ALCS.

The injury time off, which was only by chance his fault, is part of it. I also thought his defense was below the level of what the scouting reports hinted at.
