Felix
Someone wearing an ISU sweatshirt walked past me today. I almost asked him if he thought ISU had the best backcourt in history, but I managed to hold back.
Jenksismyhero
QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) That was a cheap shot by the kid from Wisconsin with the forearm on the pick against Jackson. I think it was Krabenhoff? I wonder if he will get a game suspension or at least some sort of punishment from the league. Anyway a nice win for the Boilers. From the reply it looked like a clean play all around. Jackson had no idea the Wis player was there, until he was on the floor looking up. I'm really kind of suprised by Wisconsin right now. Their offense is never going to run up and down all game, but they just can't seem to manufactur anything. Take away some of the unexpected 3's by the freshman big guy (something with a "k") and that was a blow out loss at home. And their D was terrible. I dunno how many times Moore drove, not even hard, and ended up with an easy layup.

I dunno how many times Moore drove, not even hard, and ended up with an easy layup. Well, Jackson was going to get a faceful from not seeing the pick, which would have been legal, but the forearm was clearly thrown to deliver a blow instead of just absorbing the contact from Jackson in the chest. If it were the NBA a fine would be certain, but other then a suspension I'm not sure how the league could disipline the guy. Maybe a first time flagrant foul type listing is in effect. I'm not sure, but it was not a clean play at all in my book.
whitesoxbrian
33-28 Wake at half. I didn't expect Duke to win, but they're shooting like s*it and are only 5 behind. If Singler can figure out how to put the ball in the hoop, and if Zoubek can find some sort of coordination (just for 1 game), they'll win this. Jackson had no idea the Wis player was there, until he was on the floor looking up. That was not even close to a clean play. He clearly throws an elbow that hits Jackson square in the face. If you watch that and think that is a clean play, well then you badly need your eyes checked because I fear you are going blind. RockRaines
Ah yes the ol intentional elbow to the face ejection when you are about to lose in the OSU/UM game. Stay classy Wolverines.
RockRaines
Clearly this is going to be a wide open tourney this year. There is a definite top tier, but the gap is very small between the top tier and the second tier.

There is a definite top tier, but the gap is very small between the top tier and the second tier. Right now, Duke is a 2nd tier team. They have 2 good players (Singler,Henderson), and a bunch of solid or medicore guys. Nolan Smith and Scheyer are free throw shooters, Zoubek is an uncoordinated goof, McClure is a pure defender, Paulus is an energy guy, and Elliot Williams won't be anything more then 2 ppg this year. KU with a nice win at Nebraska to go to 5-0 in the Big 12.

whitesoxfan101
That Northwestern/Indiana game was awfully entertaining for a game between an NIT team and a soon to be 1-17 or 2-16 Big Ten team. As for Wake/Duke, Wake Forest is CLEARLY a better basketball team head to head than Duke, by far. The problem is they are young, so they got a bit lazy and let a pretty veteran Duke team back into it as a result, but were fortunate enough to pull it out. With all the length and athletic ability Wake Forest has, they can be a nightmare as a team defensively and as a result can use that defense and athletic skill to lead to and execute on the fast break. They have to be one of the favorites to make a run to the Final Four right now, although that youth can be scary in March. Duke historically struggles with the big/physical/athletic teams. I think WF is clearly the better team.
JuiceCruz16
Great to escape Florida State with the win. Terrible D by the Noles on that last play though, it seemed like they just prayed Ty would miss and steered clear of him. As for the Duke game, Johnson redeemed himself a bit for his total brain cramp on the previous rebound when he was outhustled giving Henderson the extra crack at knotting the game up. Teague seems to defer an awful lot down the stretch of games, instead of looking for his shot (Va. Tech & Duke) he passed up some good looks at key moments in both games. ChiSox_Sonix
Looking forward to UCONN being ranked number 1 next week provided they can beat Providence on Saturday. Providence, though, is shockingly 6-2 in the BEAST to start the year. They just dropped 100 on Syracuse last night too.

I disagree, I think they are part of the large top tier of about 10-15 teams that could beat each other at any time. I think the next level is about 20-30 teams that could challenge the top tier given a certain situation. All in all I think about 20 teams in the tourney have a legit chance of winning it all. I think the next level is about 20-30 teams that could challenge the top tier given a certain situation. All in all I think about 20 teams in the tourney have a legit chance of winning it all. I dont agree with that large of a top tier My top tier right now is UCONN, Pitt, Oklahoma, UNC, Louisville, Wake Then right behind them I'd place Duke, Texas, Marquette, MSU, Xavier After that I think there is a definite drop off. If you look at some of the ranked teams right now, I think it speaks more to their record then it does to the actual quality of their team. Syracuse, Purdue, Clemson, Butler, Memphis and Illinois I dont think are anything special. Teams like Gonzaga, Georgetown and Arizona State however I do feel like they are capable of making a run. Then there are teams like Florida, Kansas, Notre Dame, Baylor, FSU who are unranked but better than some of the ranked teams IMO (St. Mary's, Washington, Purdue). Basically, saying there are 10-15 teams in the top tier I feel is too many. I would be shocked if no one in my top two tiers I listed wins the Tourney, but i'd be willing to bet a lot it comes from my list of 5 tier 1 teams. But of course there are 20-30 teams who can challenge a top team given the situation, I dont dispute that (look at Ok St the other night) but to do it for 6 games? No. George Mason and Villanova won't show up again for a looong time. Edited January 29, 2009 by ChiSox_Sonix
