whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) Cole Aldrich says, Jordan Who?? People know who Cole Aldrich is, I don't think anybody has any idea who Jordan Hill is. If you bring up Arizona, people think of Budinger, tiny Nic Wise, even Brandon Jennings despite the fact he's in Europe, before they think of Hill. He's a fantastic player. SleepyWhiteSox
I still keep having this fantasy where DePaul hires a a young, hungry, top mid-major coach or a top assistant from an elite program and picks up a couple of top-5 2011 Chicago kids and all is right in my college basketball world... farmteam
Hey, IU won tonight over a non-super small school! After the first 15 minutes or so, they actually played decently, for IU anyways.

whitesoxfan101
Why would Collins go to DePaul? I know it's a sleeping giant in that it's a Big East basketball school in a major city with a lot of tradition, but it's still a rebuilding job in the toughest basketball conference (by far) in America. That's a rough way to start the heading coaching portion of your career.

It's a different landscape now then when JW was hired. You could have pillaged Chicago/Illinois then with Bruce's recruiting troubles, but Weber has recruited incredibly well since Jerrance Howard arrived (no coincidence), and Self still has connections here, as does Ernie Kent at Oregon and Tracy Webster at Kentucky (other Big 10 schools get players out of the area too obviously, and I'd imagine Craig Robinson will recruit here). I don't know if I think Chris Collins could recruit on a national level to the degree it would take to make DePaul relevant in the Big East either. In all honesty, I would rather see DePaul be a good team, it's healthier for college basketball in our state. I just don't know if Collins is the guy to get that job done. whitesoxfan101
Never seen a guy attempt 35 free throws in a college game, well or score 60 points for that matter. All in a losing effort, amazing.

Rex Hudler
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) Never seen a guy attempt 35 free throws in a college game, well or score 60 points for that matter. All in a losing effort, amazing. I saw Scott Haffner score 65 points for Evansville in a 109-83 win over Dayton in 1989. These were his stats and are accurate. I remember it like it was yesterday. He had 10 points in the first few minutes so a buddy and I were actually counting the whole way from that point. He had 30 at halftime and managed another 35 in the 2nd half. It was the most amazing individual performance I have ever seen. 23-29 FG 11-13 3pt FG 8-8 FT Think about it. He scored 65 points only missing six shots! Here is the NY Times story on it..... Guard Scores 65 for Evansville Haffner began his college career at the University of Illinois and transferred to Evansville after his freshman year (I think - might have been soph). Rex Hudler
Evansville beats Western Kentucky tonight 72-40. Next up, North Carolina for the 7-1 Throbbing Purple Aces! Game is on ESPN at 6:00 Thursday night. Tyler Hansbrough will become UNC's all-time leading scorer, so there should be plenty of "face time" for UE and the MVC. This is not your average Kansas team, very young and inexperienced. 45 minutes away, I consider home. But they will get better toward the end of the season as their players mature.
