JuiceCruz16
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) I like Duke's chances this year. Whole team back except Nelson, and then add on another year to the annual-better Paulus, Singler, Scheyer, Thomas, and Smith, and then freshmen Plumlee, Williams, and Czyz. I think they can make an Elite 8 run. They can be very strong this year, but an elite 8 run will not be seen as a good year for the Dookies. It will be seen as a solid year at best for them, the standards are pretty high, even with the failures of the recent past. I'm interested in seeing how E. Williams does he may be the difference maker for that team.
Heads22
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) oh I cannot wait for more SIU is god talk. I am so excited to see the next generation of KU(7 incoming players) and the most talented group of recruits of any school for late night. What do you think is KU's shot at Barnes? Talking to someone that knows him, ISU leads. I tend to think there's less than a 50% chance he stays in Ames, but we're still the school with the best shot. For a team who has struggled in the past in the tournament and now they are criticized because nobody thinks they're athletic as you have to be to win, I think an Elite 8 appearance for my Devils would be a good year. kjshoe04
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 02:22 AM) How do you Redbirds like coach Jank? I know him. He's a great great man. Jank is absolutely loved around here. He is the face of Redbird basketball after the turnaround last year. Hopefully we can hang on to him for long long time. ZoomSlowik
I won't expect any kind of tournament success from Duke until their inside play improves. They'll be suspect against the good teams that have more size and their offense will be inconsistent without someone that can get them easy baskets inside. The highest shooting percentage of any of their returning regulars that can actually score is 47.4%, that's pretty low for a supposed elite team. If you're shooting that many jumpers it's hard to win 3 or more games against quality opponents in a row, at least without the typical "help" they often get. It's possible, but they'd need a fairly kind draw with the matchups. Edited October 17, 2008 by ZoomSlowik
whitesoxbrian
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) USC football and Duke basketball? Interesting. When I was 8, I went to a USC game in LA. It never left me. As for Duke, I don't know why. Maybe it's just because everyone hates them? I havent looked at all the teams too closely yet but an intial Final Four prediction of mine would be UNC (shocking) UConn Oklahoma Tennessee/Louisville (i cant chose between the two)

They have enough talent to get a 1 or 2 seed again, especially since they get the benefit of the doubt with the calls and seeding. Plus once they get into the tournament they're good at ugly-ing up the game just enough to win against all but the most elite opponents. They'll miss Love a lot, but they still have a hell of a backcourt with Collison, Shipp and Holiday and Lee and Anderson off the bench, and they've gotten by with as much/less than Aboya/Keefe/Morgan/Gordon up front. Palehosefan
Well, I guess I will finally join in the thread even though I'm enjoying college football alot right now :-). UNC. Just get it done, don't be the typical UNC elite team that can't get it done. Texas Tech. Pat Knight is actually getting out and recruiting and has added fast breaks to the system, great to see. Could suprise some this year, but I'm expecing an 18-11(8-8) season at best.

farmteam
I saw the Hoosiers open scrimmage yesterday, here are a few notes: Tom Pritchard looked really good. He ran the floor extremely well for a big man, always hustling. I particularly remember one instance where he dunked, and then was still the first player back. He also moved well under the basket. Verdell Jones was the best player on the court, hands down. I really think he could be something special. He's a point guard in a 6'5" body, great rotation on his shot, and was a lot better going inside than I expected. Also distributed pretty well. From what I read Dumes will be starting at the point, but I'm hoping for a three guard set with Jones/Dumes/Williams. Nick Williams looked solid (everything I've read indicated he should be the best player on this team this year), about what I expected. Decently sized, moved well, Crean mentioned he might be playing more on the inside than on the outside. Tijan Jobe is big, but that's it. VERY raw, and since he's a JUCO transfer, I'm not sure how much he'll turn into in two years. It's gonna be a long season in the Hall this year, but I feel a lot better now than I did 6 months ago.
