Since when am I an Illini fan?

When the other team shoots 20+ more fts, youd hope that the ref wouldnt call a touch foul to determine the game.

Havent they given Purdue enough breaks...

The bigger problem with that play is Johnson traveled before the weak contact.

Deleted it, as I've realized it's just not worth arguing with Illinois fans about refs.

I'm not saying that Illinois is getting screwed (except for the last one.... who calls that with one second left, in any game?). I'm just saying Purdue fans can't b**** about the refs in this game considering the free throw situation.

I agree with this...both teams are rather inept at creating offense, which causes so much contact on every play. Illinois should have more FT than they have....but they've also got some unusual calls for a road team.

Freaking awesome win. That is really all that needs to be said.

I think the best thing about it is that with so many young players they still made a lot of mistakes coming down the stretch, yet they still pulled it off. Lots of coaching material in those last 5 minutes.

A HUGE f'n game though.

And whoever said the second half was full of poor offensive execution, I totally disagree. These are two of the top defenses in the country. I thought both teams executed well given the defenses they were against.

That is the best game I've seen Bruce Weber coach in years, can't even name a specific example of the last game he coached that well. Lots of mistakes down the stretch, and Purdue helped make it possible with all of those missed free throws, but still A HUGE win for Illinois. Any win they can get is huge with their schedule early on in Big 10 play, it's pretty damn tough, and obviously any road win in league play (especially the Big 10) is enormous.

You're better than that fathom. I had no problem with the free throw disparity, Illinois should not shoot a lot of free throws because they have face up bigs and guards that don't penetrate, and Purdue is a rough and tumble team that will shoot free throws. This game also had some horrible calls, but those calls went both ways as they often do in a Big 10 game because the refs are a joke in that conference. I think overall, to say this game was called in favor of either team is just not accurate.

I missed the 1st half of the game. In the 2nd half and OT, I thought Illinois got a very solid effort from the refs. My overall response more had to deal with a certain aspect of Illini fans who think there's a conspiracy every game against them by the refs. Legion looked much better tonight, as he was fluid on the court.

There is a conspiracy in the Big Ten to help the home team. Well, not so much a conspiracy, more like a celebrated tradition.

I really do. ISU has two players better than any player on Illinois. Osiris would be hands down the best player on that court. I also think ISU is more athletic than Illinois. The difference in my eyes would be the size. If ISU could get decent rebounding, I think they would win in a close one between the two teams. The difference would be Osiris and Oguchi's rebounding.

I'm an MVC guy and an Illini hater as much as anyone here, but don't be ridiculous.

I had to tape the Illinois game, so I just finished watching it. All I can say is what a great win for the Illini! Even with some terrible calls against them as well as going, what, 1-5 on free throws to start OT, they came through in the clutch. The defense looked very good, and that possession where Davis had 2 blocks in a row was huge. And it was good to see Legion getting involved in key situations and doing well.

Also, although this comment is random and out of place, I shall make it now since I just saw some of the comments earlier in the thread (I was traveling the last few days and haven't been online). Illinois would beat Illinois State by 15 points, not sure how somebody would conclude Illinois State wins that game. The Redbirds currently have a slightly better record because they haven't played anybody, whereas Illinois has a few decent wins, a really good one tonight, and a tough home loss to an undefeated and ranked Clemson game in a ballgame where Illinois played horrific defense and still had a chance to tie/win the game. Davis and Tisdale would both have double doubles in such a theoretical matchup (Davis only shows up for "important" games, and playing an undefeated team would be good enough for him), and do as they wished.

The Gophers got blown out by Michigan State today (it wasn't close, despite what the final score says) thanks to our worst effort as a whole all season. The offense was nonexistent and the defense couldn't get back in time on anything. The loss led me to buying a lot of beer on the way home, so yeah, thanks Gophers.
