In other news, Ed Hightower is still a terrible official.

The problem with Ed Hightower, is that he thinks everyone paid admission to watch Ed Hightower. Ever notice how games his crew officiate, almost always go 30 to 40 minutes longer on average. :lolhitting :lolhitting

Gophers held on to beat Indiana 67-63 in Assembly Hall. We didn't deserve to win and our piss poor play continued, but at least we escaped with a W.

Pretty bad defense down the stretch by IU. Minn was penetrating and getting easy buckets.

IU also couldn't rebound anything toward the end, and the Gophers actually outrebounded them, the first time the Hoosiers have been outrebounded by a Big 10 team this year.

Great game going on between OU/OSU. I love watching the Cowboys play. They're the Suns (the old Suns) of college hoops.

Blake's having an amazing 2nd half so far, which is impressive considering Okl St. is double teaming him every possession. Travis Ford is a hell of a coach...just look at how much UMASS sucks this season w/o him.

Blake is every bit as good as advertised. Willie Warren is also a stud. I agree with you on Ford.

Don't worry, we're going to lose Wednesday.

even though I'm a Miami fan, I want FSU to do well in football and basketball. Not baseball though haha.

If Jordan doesnt call Hamilton a few years back, I really think Miami's program would be a constant top 20 team right now. So I'll always root for FSU basketball unless it we need FSU to lose to get in. So I would rather watch VT fall apart and have both our teams move on.

DePaul 'plans to retain' Jerry Wainwright as coach

DePaul has faith in Wainwright despite another down season

DePaul coach Jerry Wainwright joked about taking alternate routes home and passing off a Confucius quote as a line from a New Jersey rapper to some of his players.

While his natural humor certainly lightens the mood around a grim basketball season and alleviates pressure on his players, Wainwright often thinks about the somber advice he received years ago as he underwent rehabilitation following knee surgery.

"A guy told me you can't fall farther than the floor," he said. "Life is all about bouncing back."

DePaul fans have been wondering whether Wainwright will be coming back to DePaul after this season to help the Blue Demons get on their feet. Athletic director Jean Lenti Ponsetto said Tuesday that Wainwright will return.

"I feel comfortable saying DePaul (8-12, 0-7) plans to retain Jerry because he's doing all the things we've asked him to do, which is build the program," Ponsetto said.

"I would hope folks would recognize it's a process. DePaul believes Jerry has the coaching experience and the skills to be successful in the Big East. For the short time we've been in the Big East, that has been fairly evident."

Wainwright, in his fourth season at DePaul, has a 51-60 record. He was given a contract extension through 2012 after a run to the NIT quarterfinals in 2007.

The Blue Demons were 11-19 last season and failed to qualify for the Big East tournament, and a fairly promising 8-5 start to the current season has been obliterated by a seven-game Big East losing streak going into Wednesday night's game against No. 2 Connecticut (18-1, 7-1) at Allstate Arena.

From callers to his radio show, through e-mail messages and harsh comments made toward family members, Wainwright is aware public pressure is mounting.

"I take umbrage to anybody who would say we're a disgrace as a program," he said.

"Are we where we need to be as a basketball team? Absolutely not. We need to get better. But [the players] have a great attitude and have come together."

Based on his strong relationship with DePaul's president, athletic staff, faculty, his players and the players' families, Wainwright hasn't lost faith in what he's doing.

"I'm not afraid of my job," he said. "The minute I'm afraid of where I'm going to be or I make a decision based on public opinion, then I don't deserve to coach."

Wainwright sees progress building off a young core, which includes five freshmen, three sophomores, a junior and two seniors. Ponsetto points to upgrades of the on-campus practice facility and weight room and insists DePaul is comparable to other Big East teams in terms of facilities, support staff and recruiting.

"You really build teams that can be good in the Big East when you have seasoned kids who are juniors and seniors," she said. "I think that's fairly evident when you look at the success of Notre Dame and Marquette.

"Some of our young guys have the potential to be impact players in our league. We're probably a year or two away from making that happen."

Retaining the same coach is vital to building the program, she said. Wainwright is DePaul's fourth coach since 1997.

"It's absolutely about consistency in coaching," Ponsetto said. "Constant transition and changes often times don't really yield success.

"When you look at programs that have built up, it's over years and over time."

Wainwright said the team has not turned its gaze toward next season and trying to win now.

"You cannot let short-term frustration set your long-term goals," he said. "Nobody's going to quit."

I laugh at your frustrations, friend, as they're no match to that of any of us few and once-proud DePaul faithful.
