Perhaps its me being an Illinois homer, but it's ridiculous to me that Chester Frazier didn't win Defensive player of the year and that Weber didn't win Coach of the Year. I'm fine with the media choosing Dechellis, but Izzo? Come on...

Damian Johnson > Chester Frazier

When a team wins a conference by as wide a margin as Michigan State did, lapping the field when the field might have 6 or 7 tournament teams in addition to Michigan State, that team is going to lap the field in terms of awards as well.

Hopefully that snubbing of Turner makes him come back next year.

As a total player yes, but not as a defender. Frazier got the job of defending the conferences best - guys like Turner, Harris, Hummell and Lucas - and shut them all down (save for Lucas in the 2nd game).

You could make a good case for either one of Johnson, Frazier or JuJuan Johnson. I was surprised Walton got it.

Report: Haith interested in Alabama job

ATLANTA -- CBSSports.com is reporting that University of Miami coach Frank Haith is apparently interested in filling the opening at Alabama.

According to an industry source that spoke with the website, Haith is willing to leave UM if the Crimson Tide come with a respectable offer. Haith received a raise and a new contract after leading the Hurricanes to the NCAA Tournament's second round last season.

Frank Haith The Hurricanes were eliminated in the first round of the ACC Tournament Thursday and will miss the NCAA Tournament after being picked to finish fourth in the preseason and ranked as high as 16th in the national polls. UM is expected to receive an invitation to the NIT Tournament Sunday night.

Despite a disappointing season, Haith is still considered one of the best young coaches in the business and an excellent recruiter. His name has come up as candidate at other schools -- including Georgia -- throughout the season. I haven't had a chance to have a personal conversation with Haith since these latest rumors have come up, but he's said on multiple occasions he's very happy at Miami and coaching in the ACC.

Still, next season UM will be starting over without Jack McClinton. One has to wonder if this might not be the best opportunity for Haith to move onto a place that pays better and supports basketball better than UM does. After all, the Canes play to half-filled arenas on most nights and this coming week won't even be able to host games on their own floor in the NIT because the BankUnited Center has been rented out. Haith has one of country's Top 25 recruiting classes coming in. If he left, it would be a huge blow to the Canes who would likely lose recruits if he bolted.

I'm waiting to get on my flight back home to Miami. I'll try to reach Haith when I get back home.

I hope this isnt true but maybe we could make a run at a mid-major coach like Jankovich or Grant from VCU.

I can't imagine leaving Miami for the Alabama job. The only reason I could think of leaving would be to get into a conference without UNC and Duke at the top. But if/when Florida and UK come back from their mediocrity, it's not going to be much different.

Kentucky is looking like mediocrity will be around for awhile.

Miami cant compete with public schools when it comes to paying coaches. So that might be the only reason. I dont want Haith to go because we have a pretty good class according to ESPN coming in and I'd hate to lose any of them if Haith leaves.

Unfortunately that doesn't mean much. ESPN is terrible in the recruiting rankings, especially for basketball. But I think i'd rather be at Miami than Alabama. Both are football schools, but Alabama more so.

Yes, everyone should stay away from ESPN if you would like actual recruiting rankings, they have zero clue on any sport.

Jereme Richmond essentially clinches Mr. Basketball in Illinois with a game-winning half-court shot to defeat Brandon Paul and Warren. Wow! I would love to see this game. Looks like both players were fantastic and super clutch in this one. I heard Brandon Paul was literally in tears after Richmond's shot. 2011 seems like decades away.

It was unreal. Both guys were great. Richmond just calmly dribbled to half court and shot it. He made it look so easy.

I'm a Warren guy, so it will be tough to fall asleep after that.

Were you there? I'm hoping somebody at least puts up the game-winner on YT.

So did Walton, plus he did it on a much larger national stage. I could make a good case for all 4, but Walton winning the award should not be a surprise to anyone. :headbang

I like how yesterday people were saying the Gophers were in with a win against NU, but now today they are saying the Gophers might be taken off the bubble because they lost to MSU.

Welcome to March. It's madness, it's strange, it makes no sense, and sometimes it's not fair. Just hope your team is fortunate enough to have a chair to sit in when the music stops.

So why doesn't anyone use their brain and say Memphis isn't that good? Everyone knows their conference is ok at best so none of those wins will garner much respect from me, at least when you are talking about getting a #1 seed. But seriously, Memphis hasn't beaten anyone I respect. Their best wins are Gonzaga (who only has notable wins over bubble team Maryland, 7th best place in the Big 12 Oklahoma State, and twice over 10-6 in the SEC Tennessee compared to losses to bubble team Arizona, Portland St. and Utah), Tennessee (10-6 in the SEC as I said, not impressed at all) and then what? Seton Hall? Cincinnati? Those are atrocious 'good' wins. About as bad as any team in the top 4 seeds. Now let's look at their losses. Xavier, @Georgetown and Syracuse (in Memphis). Georgetown isn't a bad loss, but not exactly a good one. It's also pretty fair to say Xavier and Syracuse are the best 2 teams on Memphis' schedule, and Memphis lost, on a neutral site and at home. So can someone actually come up with a good reason why Memphis is one of the top 8 teams in the country?

They have won like 395 games in a row in their conference. Thus, when everyone is beating up and losing in tough conferences ,they are raising in the rankings.

I do know there is something fishy about that program and their absolute success with recrutiting. I do know, they have a date with Kansas next year, and we hope to beat them again.

I understand that part, but the committee is supposed to be smarter than that.
