cwsox
Since HSC is bored and I don't even want to read the game thread: what was your favorite trip with your grandparents? My grandkid better answer that question with "its a tie" between our overnight experience last month or the adventure we began today - we began tonight for my grandson and me - the county fair - rural western Michigan county fair - for all of you think that I am a very sophisticated city dude, my duck won first place! [granted it was in the "old hen" category but she is an old hen duck and still has all the posie and attitude and styke you want in a duck which is why she wins ever year] {HSC, how could I move back to Chicago when I have raised the annual award winning duck out here?} anyway the grandkid and I spent the evening riding every ride over and over - he likes to hang upside down in the gravitron - the trip continues Sunday with his very first concert: at Ford Field in Detroit, yes, he is seeing Missy Elliott, 50 cent, and Eminem now how many grandparents take their kid to see Eminem? I think I deserve a special place in grandparent HOF for that! we have club level, first row seats - he is a bit young for the mosh pit - from Detroit, following the concert, Em's only 2003 US appearance, we drive straight to Chicago for the All Star Game (I am going to the Home Run Derby but he's missing that), I want to see his 3rd grade teacher's face next month when she says, what did you do over the summer and have the kid say, "My poppa took me to sleepovernight in the outfield at Comiskey, took me to see Eminem, and the All Star Game." My best trip with my grandparents: none. My one grandfather took me to Wrigley on my only trip anywhere with any grandparent and he was hurt because I cheered for the Cards - hell, not even for Pop would I cheer for the cubs - so I guess it was my best trip and I loved him very much but I wish he would have taken me to Comiskey! witesoxfan
I wish my grandparents would take me to see Eminem. I think I'd be hanging with them a little more often. Instead, I hear about how they haven't seen me in a long time and they were afraid that the gypsies had stolen me. I guess that's the kind of stuff you hear from people over 70. And my grandpa's probably going to die soon. It is sad, but I knew it was coming, not because he was getting older, but because he's smoked for 50 years. Nothing we can do about it. He's fighting with cancer now, but it was hard to see him the way he was. I don't think I've ever taken a trip with my grandparents. However, there is a drive-in that is actually up and running in the town they live in....one of the few still being used in South Dakota. I figure I'll go with them sometime soon....like hopefully this summer.

Be Good
MY last trap with my grandparents, which I really enjoyed was a trip to Home Dept for my Grandpa to apply there for a job....SHORTLY after he passed away, but we had a great team with some of the things we did, I miss him very much BE GOOD
Chisoxfn
Well my favorite thing to do with my grandpa was to just go over to his house or go on a drive with him. He was always #1 in my book and its why somewhere deep down I always will root for the Cardinals if he was in the playoffs. He'd always tell me stories of the gas house gang and stuff. He'd also play baseball with me all the time (That was like all I'd do every day. I'd play baseball with my friends, again with my grandpa, and then again with my dad during the summer and then go to the pool at night). Damn to go back to those times without any responsibilities what-so-ever.
YASNY
I never had the pleasure of knowing one of my grandfathers, as he died when my father was 13. My maternal grandfather was in poor health the last 8-10 years of his life, and I lived in Chicago while he lived here in KY. However, he was quite a renowned baseball coach in this area. He managed a team that would probably be consider American Legion ball today. He had a few players make the majors. The only one I can think of of the top of my head was Bob "Hawk" Taylor, a catcher, iirc, in the early 60's.
Guest hotsoxchick1
cw im glad you guys had a great outing...........if my grandparents ever took me or my bro to eminem my moms would have kicked their asses...lol............the best trip out with my papa would have been each and every white sox game we attended, and the wrestling matches and black hawks games he took me to when i was a kid........we used to go to the ampatheater on sundays in the winter time to see dick the bruser and the crusher beat up on the regular suspects.....it was awesome......and then we took frequent trips to the chicago stadium to see guys like stan makita (sp?), bobby hull, the espisitio brothers-phil and tony boy, do their magic on skates and of course watch as little scrappy redheaded keith magnuson try to kick the s*** out of everyone on the ice......... ahh the good ol days.......i can wait till my kids have kids, but when they do, i hope im as cool a nana as my papa was to me......
