greg775
True fathom but I'd like to give Jamie Moyer credit. If we had him on our team at his age as an acquisition everybody would SCREAM on here. He pitched a f***ing great game. We could do a lot worse than picking up some old pitcher who can eat up innings like Moyer. Congrats to a class act, Jamie Moyer. Baseball, by the way is a fricking joke. The game ends just before 2 a.m. Eastern. There are so many things wrong about that there is no need to mention. f*** YOU commissioner. IlliniKrush
Selig doesn't control the rain. Also, Longoria really had no chance but to see if that ball goes foul, he had zero chance to make that play and should have realized it as he charged. Poor defense all around that inning. What a bizarre last half.
knightni
That Longoria throw was pretty ridiculous though.
Milkman delivers
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 01:49 AM) I really thought that last dribbler was going to go foul. This World Series has been very disappointing, as neither team is playing at a high level. Eh, it's a close series and each game has been close. As long as the White Sox or Cubs aren't in the World Series, I'll take this every time.

Who would scream and why would they scream? Moyer is still producing at a pretty high level, his age has nothing to do with it as he doesnt rely on speed and overpowering hitters

His numbers were almost directly equivelent to Buehrle this year.
greg775
You really think people on the board would be in favor of adding Moyer after last season for this season??
Kyyle23
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) You really think people on the board would be in favor of adding Moyer after last season for this season?? Its a moot point because it isnt going to happen, but I certainly dont believe that there would be an uproar about it like you do. The guy went 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA this year, he isnt a slouch. And like I said, the guy isnt a power pitcher, his age doesnt matter, he breaks bats with a 8o MPH fastball and he has been doing it for the last 20 years

SexiAlexei
This might be a stupid question, but if it keeps raining or gets worse, what happens if they call the game? Does Philly get the W, or do they start it up again tomorrow?

witesoxfan
QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) This might be a stupid question, but if it keeps raining or gets worse, what happens if they call the game? Does Philly get the W, or do they start it up again tomorrow? I'm sure they'd get the W, and it would suck, but those are the rules. But what are the official rules if the rain delay is called in the top half rather than the bottom half in regards to Tampa trailing and in the bottom half if Philly is trailing? Do they just postpone it?
IlliniKrush
There's no way in hell they would call this an official game without 9 innings being played. Not with a 2-1 score to end the series, even if they had to wait until 4am to play it, etc. Umps are stuck between a rock and a hard place here, I can see why they've played through it. Any delay much earlier, and they wouldn't come back for hours upon hours.
IlliniKrush
Rays tie it up = best possible scenario, at the perfect time where the field finally became truly unplayable.

IlliniKrush
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) God, could you imagine if they had had to call the game? Last case scenario certainly, but the controversy would be unparalled. I guess you have 3 options at that point, none of them good: 1) Call it at some point, world series ends with 3 at bats left in a one run game. 2) Play through it on an unplayable field that gets worse, would be a joke of a game. 3) Wait it out as long as possible and hope it lets up a bit enough to improve the field a little and play through the rest of it, no matter what time that is - and it's already 11pm eastern time. All of these options suck. Mother nature almost completely f***ed everyone. I mean, this is still a mess, but at some point, this game will continue with a better field and better weather - it just might take a long time to do so according to the forecasts. whitesoxfan101
I try to avoid the use of hyperboles under all circumstances, but the World Series ending like that would have been the biggest disaster in the sport since the Black Sox. Thank God Tampa Bay tied it. Edited October 28, 2008 by whitesoxfan101
WhiteSoxfan1986
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) I try to avoid the use of hyperboles under all circumstances, but the World Series ending like that would have been the biggest disaster in the sport since the Black Sox. Thank God Tampa Bay tied it. Yea MLB really lucked out with the Rays tying it up. They would either be facing a game ending at 3 a.m. or playing in a huge puddle. They were really put in a hard spot though, as it's supposed to rain tomorrow as well.
IlliniKrush
Well Selig said we would have gone into a rain delay for however long it took, so at least there's that. The rain screwed everyone up, and I think everyone did the best job they could in this. You had to start the game, you had to play it as long as you could, and then you had to suspend it when you can't go any longer and deal with it afterwards. I'm sure people will say this is a circus and blame Selig for something, but save building a roof in Philly in about a half hour's time, I don't know what else you're supposed to do. ThunderBolt
I’m not entire sure that I buy what ESPN is selling (which I rarely do) I can’t see how this is a huge Rays victory (knocking out Hamels) when the Phillies still have the clear advantage in the bullpen. Texsox
I would support a rules change that would rrequire all postseason and the final regular season games needing to be regulation minimum 9 inning games.
