Care to elaborate?

I'd say that the only reason that the ethanol industry exists in this country is that there are huge government mandates and subsidies that pay portions of the cost. It just so happens that an awful lot of the money created by that subsidy flows to the first state in the Presidential Election contests.

I thought this would have been a more active topic.

Perhaps would you rather be in a pivitol state right now, that is "in play", or a you can paint it red or blue now, it ain't going to change.

it's a ton more fun to be in a toss-up state. i've had john edwards and dick gephardt to my house in Iowa. I've met bob graham, kerry, obama, kucinich, etc. if you're into politics there's nothing better.

now, if you hate politics then it really sucks. haha. but i think it's definitely in a state's interest to be "in play" because honestly, you get your voice heard much more often. no dem candidate needs to pander to california, though it might help to promise iowa (in the past) a little sumthin' sumthin'
