caulfield12
1) Ludwick or Ankiel for CF (because of the emergence of Rasmus) 2) Coco Crisp 3) Brandon Lyon (will be leaving D-Backs probably...) 4) Juan Cruz (ditto) Taking either Ankiel (because of the HGH) or Ludwick (sort of the Cardinals' version of Carlos Quentin) scares me a little, because we'd have to overpay IMO and both of them might struggle their first year in the AL making adjustments. I prefer a lot less talent going for Taveras. Crisp is someone that KW remains high on from everything I've heard. Cruz, and especially Lyon, would look nice in our pen, especially if we're actually shopping Jenks and/or Dotel.

He has regression written all over him especially coming into the american league. THat is not the only thing against him though in my book. I'd also stay away from Lloyn. I'm still trying to figure out how he ever had an ERA under 4. And why would we want Crisp still? I'd much prefer getting Taveras for cheaper. Both are .280 hitters with a .330 OBP and play pretty good D. The difference is that Crisp has more power, but Tavares is the better base stealer. I wouldn't mind Cruz though. Is he a type A or B free agent? Edited November 9, 2008 by BearSox

Yesterday at 9:14 AM I wrote the last entry in the KW signature move thread and mentioned Ankiel and Ludwick. Of course that just means Rogers reads the trade rumors too only I don't have to wait till the next day to repeat what I read. Ankiel played CF and has maybe the best throwing arm in the NL. Its a howitzer.
caulfield12
The question is, what do the Cardinals ask us for...you know it's going to start with pitching, and we can offer Jenks/Vazquez but they will want Buehrle, Danks and Floyd. "I'm not only proud of my country for the first time in many years, but I also can publicly be an Iowa Hawkeye football fan again...and also laugh once again at Ron Zook." Vazquez straight up for Ankiel sounds good to me but then again I'm biased. Edited November 9, 2008 by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
scenario
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) The question is, what do the Cardinals ask us for...you know it's going to start with pitching, and we can offer Jenks/Vazquez but they will want Buehrle, Danks and Floyd. Don't make the mistake of undervaluing Vazquez. I know it's popular to bash him right now, but early in the season people were referring to him as the ace of our staff... and rightfully so because he was pitching extremely well. The only reason IMO that he's catching as much crap as he is right now is because of how he finished out the year. KW won't give him away... and he shouldn't. If the Sox decide to deal him there will be teams lining up to take him off of our hands.

Is he a type A or B free agent? I agree with all this. Cruz unfortunately is Type A though. Cruz pros: -very good stuff -healthy -capable of pitching a lot of innings out of the pen -capable of working in multiple roles -previous success in the AL Cruz cons: -we lose our 1st round draft pick -likely will command 3 years or more, in part due to Linebrink's deal setting the market -likely will command around $5M+ per year, again in part due to the deals given by us to Linebrink and Dotel It might be worth it to shop around for relievers via trade. Personally, I'd rather look to deal a prospect like Shelby, who is a good player and should make the majors but doesn't really fit well anywhere, than lose a first rounder. I'd love to see our long ball softball bashers mash the ball against that stiff. Edited November 9, 2008 by greg775

Maybe we could get lucky and have him somehow baffle hitters in the AL for a little while.
Chisoxfn
I love Juan Cruz although I'd hate to give up our first rounder for him though.

Cruz has never been good in the AL, FWIW. 7.44 ERA with Oakland in 2005. I would love to have him though, but not at the cost of a first round pick and $4 million + salary.
