Best part of that article:

"It's a great opportunity to see a lot of talented players, almost like the next jump up from Double-A, where I was," he said. "I know it's been a long season and my body's tired, but in the Major League season you have to go a little farther, so I think it's preparing me for that."

Working much shorter stints, Poreda's main goal in Arizona has been to further develop his off-speed repertoire.

"I'm developing my changeup as a third pitch," he explained. "Over the first season, my slider became my 1-2 punch with my fastball and I didn't work with my changeup much."

It's a lesson he learned as he moved so quickly up the ladder in his first full pro season.

"When I was in college I could get away with making mistakes over the middle and challenging people with fastballs," he said. "But here, if you keep on throwing fastballs, people will hit them and make you look silly."
