Johnny Nunez, Wilson Betemit, Jeff Marquez

That's more like it, I love Wilson Betemit.

Can you explain the love for Betemit? From his stats, looks like a super sub type player to me. Or am I missing something?

Jhonny J. Núñez (born November 26, 1985, in the Dominican Republic) is a North American professional baseball player. He is a right-handed pitching prospect in the New York Yankees organization.

Núñez signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006. He pitched in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League for the GCL Dodgers, where he accrued a win-loss record of 6-0 and an ERA of 1.58 in 7 starts and 3 relief appearances; he struck out 56 batters in 57 innings. The Los Angeles organization recognized Núñez as their top minor league pitcher for the month of July. On August 31, 2006, he was acquired by the Washington Nationals for veteran utilityman Marlon Anderson.

In 2007, Núñez pitched for the Hagerstown Suns of the low A-level South Atlantic League. He logged 105⅔ innings in 22 starts and one relief appearance, winning 4, losing 6, and recording a 4.05 ERA.

in 2008, Núñez pitched for the high-A Potomac Nationals and AA Harrisburg Senators, converting to relief. On July 31, 2008, Núñez was traded to the New York Yankees for infielder Alberto Gonzalez. He has joined the Yankees AA affiliate, the Trenton Thunder.

Núñez is a fastball/slider pitcher with a 94-mph sinker. He has a three-quarters arm slot and can throw a changeup, but it's apparently a secondary pitch.[1] During the offseason, Núñez lives in San Jose de las Matas, Dominican Republic.

When Jeff Marquez arrived in Tampa after the season ended, he was a bit deflated by his slow end to the season. But, that changed quickly once he spoke with pitching coordinator, Nardi Contreras.

Nardi Contreras worked with this guy, watch out for the rotator cuff!

Anyone know stuff about Jhonny Nunez?

Started out as a SP last season, but failed to maintain his velocity later into games, and he lacks a quality 3rd pitch. Profiles as a middle reliever. His a lively, sinking fastball that tops out at 94. Has an "improving" slider. Throws from a low 3 quarters arm slot.

I'll recap quickly BA's take on Marquez from last season...

Sinker-Slider guy. Power sinker 89-93. Curve and change improved to solid-average pitches. Great pickoff move. Doesn't miss any bats meaning he relies heavily on his defense. Projects him to be a workhorse number 3 or 4.

Again, that was last year's scouting report when he was the Yanks' #7 prospect.

Sounds like Jon Garland.

OK so, what is the deal? Marquez, Betemit and Melky for Swish and Teixera?

I was kind of high on Teixera.

Where has Melky been mentioned? So far it's Marquez, Betemit and some other minor league pitcher.

There has to be something else although Swisher was god awful and still has $24 million left on his "reasonable" contract. If this "prospect" is all they got back, the Swisher trade of last winter probably will go down as KW's worst so far.

If this is all the Sox got, they definitely sold low on Swisher. He's bound to rebound and his contract wasn't bad but I'm thinking this was much more of a contract clearing move than anything else. Probably not something that will get any of us excited, but if it frees up funds to ensure we can lock up guys like Danks/Floyd/Quentin in the future, plus frees up the money to sign Viciendo and enable some interesting trades I'd be happy.

I'm still hoping that Cano is part of the deal as well, haha.

KW had to trade Swisher. Another bad start or bad season and he would have been an albatross. It appears Betimet will replace Uribe and be the back-up at all IF positions. The pitchers don't excite me, but there's probably just as good of chance they are useful at some point as there is of Swisher hitting .250 and striking out less than 130 times.

The big two trades last offseason = massive busts

Well it's not like Garland pitched well for the Angels, and it gave a chance for Danks and Floyd to step up.

Plus we'll get 2 draft picks for OC I'd imagine.
