witesoxfan
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) His swing makes me think Vlad. I see more Miguel Tejada in it. But I can see Vlad too. He's definitely a big boy though for sure.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) I don't get it. Sure he has size, but it isn't as if he looks horribly fat. Of course for being 19 he's huge but just make sure he's on the proper conditioning program and that size could be an asset. Supposedly he has gained a lot of weight in recent years, and 19 year olds tend to fill out even more. I'm sure the Sox weighed him and when the scale said "ouch" they told him to drop some weight. Cubano
QUOTE (Cowch @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Alexei looks really nice in a suit. We are in America now. We became civilized. No more shorts, t-shirts and shoes with holes.

lostfan
Meh I wear a suit to work everyday. It's overrated. I wish they'd let me wear t-shirts, shorts, and shoes with holes in them.

max power
I don't see how you can complain when you have a choice. In cuba there is no choice. 'Ju wanna be like a sheep, like all those other people mang, baa-aa-aa! baa-aaa-aaa! ju wanna work eight, ten f***ing hours, ju own nothing, ju got nothing? ju wanna chivato on every corner... ? I got octopus coming out my f***ing ears, mang. ju wanna be a sheep? baa-aa-aa-aa! baa-aa-aa-aa!' Edited December 6, 2008 by MAX
lostfan
I'm not complaining about anything. I just wish I could wear shorts, a t-shirt, and shoes with holes in them to the job I have now. I don't have that choice but it would be pretty awesome.
Cubano
My comment was just a sarcasm. I do enjoy wearing t-shirts, shorts but do not enjoy wearing shoes with holes. Probably, Alexei was doing some type of event requiring to wear a suit.
Cubano
I wrote something about Viciedo here. I translated some of the Spanish interview. His stats are also there in case somebody has not seen the stats before. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Cubano @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 07:44 AM) I wrote something about Viciedo here. I translated some of the Spanish interview. His stats are also there in case somebody has not seen the stats before. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/ He looks like he might have put on a 20 pounds from his workout to clips they were showing of him playing in Cuba (or whereever that was), but he doesn't look that fat. He looks like just a massive dude. He looks 19 like Greg Oden looked 19.
justBLAZE
From Cowley: Dayan Viciedo has received his visa and will be heading to Chicago this week, according to agent Jamie Torres. He doesn't look that overweight in that video, I was positively surprised as I was expecting worse.
103 mph screwball
He looks to be in pretty good shape. He seems like a big guy (not fat) for a third baseman. He doesn't strike me as someone who would be quick. I think we are gonna love this guy where ever he ends up playing for the Sox.
caulfield12
Hopefully he's better than Carlos Lee defensively, at either 3B or LF/RF. He certainly has better arm strength than Caballo at least.
almagest
If I'm reading those stats right, Viciedo has a career BB/K ratio of 98/123. These are from professional seasons, at the age of 16, 17, and 18. Impressive -- if he can maintain that sort of strike zone selection, and hit for power, he'll be something special. In Cuba, eating lobsters, crabs, shrimps is almost impossible. In Cuba, you do not eat beef steak often. Those are for tourists. In Cuba, I did not have ice creams any time I wanted it. In Cuba, I could not eat many things you have here. When we come to the states or other country, we eat things we have not eaten before or have not eaten in a while. Therefore, Viciedo just discovered lots of food he never seen before. Mexican, lebanese, moroccan, american, italian, peruvian, etc. I will be concern if after a few months, Viciedo keeps gaining weight. Enjoy what you have in USA. For those that burn your own flag expressing your freedoms and rights, I advise you to live in Cuba where we have little freedoms and rights. Even with the current Cuba situation, I will never burn my cuban flag. Edited December 9, 2008 by Cubano

The Ginger Kid
I hope Jamie Torres is for real on this guy. Jaime Torres, the agent for White Sox third-base prospect Dayan Viciedo, as well as Alexei Ramirez and Jose Contreras, learned Monday the paperwork for Viciedo's visa is finished, and he should have the 19-year-old Cuban defector in Chicago by the end of this week to sign his contract. Torres again insisted that if Viciedo does not make the club out of spring training, expect a call-up before the All-Star Game because ''this kid is something special.''
