Steve9347
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) Are the GMs screaming at each other? I heard that there was some sobbing.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) I heard that there was some sobbing. Then KW is winning. I think KW is the Chuck Norris of MLB GMs.
elrockinMT
I hope that KW just says NO
DBAHO
Hmmmm ok then. So let's toss out some names that could come our way. Willy Aybar Edwin Jackson Wade Davis - (B+ spect from Sickels, ready for 2009 possibly, been compared to Gil Meche) Jeremy Hellickson - (B+ pitching spect from Sickels, good mix of command and stuff) Jake Jeffries - (Catcher prospect, good contact hitting skills) Reid Brignac - (SS prospect, bat slipped in 2008 though) Matt Moore - (LHP spect) Nick Barnese - (RHP spect)
iamshack
Edwin Jackson, anyone? For whatever reason, I would be surprised if he were not part of the deal... Who else might we be interested in? Any ideas?
RockRaines
I could see Aybar and an arm. I think KW likes Jackson a lot.
iamshack
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) I could see Aybar and an arm. I think KW likes Jackson a lot. Do we have a need for Aybar now that we have Betemit?
Steve9347
I'd love Davis, but that ain't a-happening.
DukeNukeEm
Could we be looking at Crawford?
sircaffey
If we don't get Wade Davis, I'll be very disappointed.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) Could we be looking at Crawford? I said in September that is who we would go after. I still believe it.
DBAHO
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Could we be looking at Crawford? Now that's something that hasn't really been thrown up, but is something to consider IMHO; His numbers were really down in 2008 though; 06 - .305/.348/.482 07 - .315/.355/.466 08 - .273/.319/.400 Post ASB he was .286/.337/.468 though. DukeNukeEm
I said in September that is who we would go after. I still believe it. Terrific opportunity to buy low on a leadoff man who could easily get 50 steals, 20 HR's (in the Cell) and a .350 OBP. I'd love the move and would be willing to toss them a Lance Broadway scrap in addition to Dye.

I'd be shocked if the Rays would entertain that notion with Dye being the main piece coming from our end...

He's going to be 27 this upcoming season, we get a repeat of those 2007 numbers plus the SB's and Quentin/Thome will have a field day with him. They want Jermaine Dye and are dangling Carl Crawford to get him. When, Lord? When will people stop ALWAYS bringing up Carl Crawford!?!??! RockRaines
I see an arm as one of the main targets for KW, you wont see any of the marquee names on the Rays coming in for JD, it just wont happen.
sircaffey
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) Yeah. They want Jermaine Dye and are dangling Carl Crawford to get him. When, Lord? DukeNukeEm
Maybe we want Carl Crawford and are dangling Jermaine Dye to get him? Other way around. Jermaine Dye is pretty underrated here, they guy has been one of the best corner OF's in the AL for the past 3 years.
RockRaines
If JD bring us some flexibility to go and sign someone on the FA market, thats even better.
scenario
If a Dye deal went down, I just have a gut feeling that Jeff Niemann might be part of the deal. Former 1st round pick... MLB ready... hard curveball that acts like a slider... tall guy who needs a little tweaking on his delivery... looks like he may be falling off the Rays depth chart... Several of the ear marks of a Kenny pick.
103 mph screwball
I'm thinking prospects that another team will want in exchange for a leadoff hitter. Maybe a quality pen guy and spects. I wonder if this will be a case of the Sox paying part of a contract for a change? KW will use some of the money for my guy Furcal.
