witesoxfan
Ken Rosenthal's got a damn good point... link A lineup that has Beltran, Sweeney, Ibanez, and Gonzalez? That's a pretty good f***ing lineup.
BridgeportHeather
Those bats COULD at some point quiet down like our bats have been known to do at various points of the season.
Chisoxfn
They have a good manager and some damn good guys. Sweeney is way better then any offensive player on our team at this point and Juan Gone is flat out awesome. I'd be worried. Hell I'm worried about them now and this is before. southsider2k5
It about time for Gonzo to have his 2nd half injury break down anyway. Go ahead let them give up prospects for him...
Cali
Not to mention that Sweeney is still out, and I think last I heard they still wanna get rid of Beltran.
Joel
Right now, I can't see the Royals winning the division with thier starting pitching right now. But if they could add a starter to move Lima, George and Elvis down in the rotation they would be more of a threat to me. But with Lima as there #1 I can't see them going anywhere. They kind of remind me of the Twins 2 years ago. I just hope we are the Indians of 2 years ago and come back to win the division.
aboz56
It depends if they get another starting pitcher. Right now, if Loaiza can keep it up, I like our staff despite the fact that Garland is still a bit inconsistent. I wouldn't want to rush Cotts to the bigs, but his numbers at AA warrant consideration for a spot start in the rotation to see how he fares if Porzio/Wright can't solve the 5th starter spot. One guy I don't want to see back up is Josh Stewart.

Trachsel would give us a very good 4th or 5th stater, yes I know he is a former Cub but if you have watched him pitch this year he has been one of the only bright spots on the team. Plus he wouldn't cost us to much money. And Walker is that pesky lefty who pitches for the Tigers who the Sox have had trouble with for the past 2 or 3 years. Rex, which pitchers in AAA or AA do you think are ready for the majors, in case Porizo and Wright don't work out.
Rex Hudler
At this point, I'd say Rauch (injury aside), Stewart or possibly Yofu.

Rex Hudler
How far away is Diaz from being ready. Good question...... I haven't seen him this year, so I am not sure. I didn't include him because he hasn't started all year. He has bounced from the rotation to the bullpen. He could be ready now, but his numbers haven't really shown any real consistency in AAA. My guess is you wouldn't get much more than 4-5 innings per outing from him.
aboz56
Stewart isn't ready to start anywhere, I can't stand watching him pitch. Rauch is solid I suppose, but he wouldn't be in the rotation on a playoff contending team IMO. Yofu I've never seen so I can't comment. What's the scouting report on him? Rex Hudler
hey rex or mnf, has rauch rebounded? Still on the DL, so no way of knowing. They made it sound like it was nothing serious, but we'll have to wait until he is pitching again.

Rex Hudler
Rex, What's your scouting report on Yofu? Have you seen him? Many times....... He throws 7 pitches, all for strikes. Doesn't walk many. Can get the fastball up to 93 or so, but doesn't throw it as often as the Sox would like. Never seems to throw the same speed twice. Very polished. He is older (just turned 30) but is in his first year of baseball in America. Pitched in Japanese Minor Leagues (an injury kept him out of their Major League last year) and the Tawain Major Leagues. Started in Charlotte Friday night. Gave up three runs on 2 HR's in the first inning and basically nothing after that. Had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings. His combined numbers at Birmingham and Charlotte are: W- L- S ERA GP IP H BB SO TOTALS 6- 6- 2 3.30 23 90.0 80 27 83 Of his 23 games pitched, 12 are starts. aboz56
Wow, he's got pretty nice numbers, maybe he does warrant consideration. I like the fact that he has several pitches that he can throw for strikes and the fact that he has a lot of experience, even though it may not be in America. But he is not on the 40-man roster so he would likely have to wait for someone else to get the chance that is on the 40-man or until a spot opens up in a trade. It's hard to say how he would do starting in the big leagues. Some think he might be a better reliever.
