Texsox
QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) If a GOP filibuster occured, sure it should be reported. That doesn't make it a bad, obstructionist thing. Of course, that is exactly the way it will be reported. Soi if a Senator said "this is a bad, obstructionist thing", should the reporter include that quote?

The GOP from 07-present blew through the record for most filibusters in any Congressional term by something like a factor of 2.

YASNY
QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Soi if a Senator said "this is a bad, obstructionist thing", should the reporter include that quote? You know the point I'm trying to make and you are nitpicking possible hypothetical scenarios. But in the interest of answering your question, yes it probably would be acceptable for that quote to be included, as long as a quote from the opposition was included in a fair and balanced manner. lostfan
Well, almost by definition, a filibuster is an obstructionist thing, so I'd expect that spade to be called a spade regardless of who does it.

Yes, they are trying to obstruct something. That however does not make it a "bad, obstructionist thing". It may very well be a good obructionist thing. jasonxctf
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) It's actually fairly remarkable how small the difference would likely be between 59/41 and 60/40 if you have a strong President setting the agenda and a press willing to treat the filibuster as a "bad, obstructionist thing". Remember...2010 is 6 years after the 2004 elections. In other words, there's 1 last group of Bush/9/11 Senate Republicans who have to face the voters in 2 years.
