I can't remember the last high-end hotel I've stayed at (conferences/seminars, etc.) that DIDN'T charge for parking.

They pretty much all charge for parking ... the high end hotels in downtown areas, at least.

Most hotels downtown do charge for parking. And they charge a lot. If you're staying downtown, your better off taking the train to the game, walking around and using cabs. The other problem with hotel valet parking is sometimes it takes them 45 minutes to get your car, and when they finally get it for you, you have to grease their palm. Say no to cars downtown.

I can tell you aren't a visitor to your own city.

Downtown hotels charge $15 - $20 a day for parking if they have a garage.  If not, then you are stuck looking for parking on your own.  That $15-$20 is not included in the room rate they charge.

WTF? I've NEVER heard of a hotel charging their GUESTS parking. That is insane, and I would never stay at a place that was tacky enough to do that. No 4-star or better hotel -- well, any respectable one at least -- would pull that kind of lowlife tactic.

When is the last time you stayed at a hotel downtown in a large city?? Any hotel will charge you for parking in large cities. I am not talking Days Inn's here, but Westins, Hiltons, Sheratons, etc.

I have paid for parking in Chicago, Atlanta, Indianapolis and Detroit, off the top of my head.

Trust me, Michelle, they do charge for self parking as well. They do it in every large city in the country. Anywhere parking is at a premium you will be charged.

If you just had parking added into your bill fine, but don't be naive to think that the charge wasn't there. It is not included in your room rate, but is charged additionally.

Hyatt charges $32/day for valet parking and $18/day for self parking.

Hilton on State and Grand charges $34/day for valet and $20/day for self parking.

The question was asked "Is charging for parking standard in downtown Chicago?"

The answer was "Anywhere and everywhere you go"

Is that not enough???

I did check. I called those places.

And for what its worth, the Fairmont charges $34/day and has no self parking. The Wyndham on N. Michigan charges $36/day with no self parking.

Shall I keep making phone calls or is it POSSIBLE for you to admit you are wrong? Or would you like to call the hotels yourself?

btw are you bored and just lookin for a fight... im sure i can find corg for ya.......

Not looking for a fight at all, just a little respect. I have traveled to Chicago and other big cities enough that I do know what I am talking about.

If you park in hotel facilities, you will pay for parking. Sure they will put it on your bill, but you are still paying for it.

If self parking to you is finding a spot on the street then we are talking about two completely different things.

you go on and keep calling..lol.. as if you are anyhow........ i dont need to call....... i have my hotel bills from those places i listed and stayed at to show what i was charged for.. and believe me.. parking is not there....if i was charged for it it would have been printed in the column of charges with the other things i was billed for... ;) and as the one that i am looking at right now states clearly on it.... parking included in room charge...and for your clarification, self parking is not parking on the street its parking in the garage that is provided by the hotel.......... ;) sorry but till im shown something a bit more concrete other than the bills i have sitting here right in front of me..... i stand by what i said.. MOST hotels in this city do not charge for parking as long as your a patron there......the ones i listed have that charge as part of the room rate.. i have concrete proof of it........... ;) i can send you copies if you require for proof of my statements........ :D

Then call them and offer them the money.  Do the right thing!

:fyou that .... their loss for not paying attention... or is it simply the fact that my parking rate (as it states clearly on the bill) was included in the room rate..............i owe nothing.......

LMAO!

Anyway, I guess the only time I've ever really stayed at a nice hotel was in Las Vegas (Venetian = 5 stars :)), and they do not charge one penny for self-parking. Maybe Vegas is different because they know they'll make plenty of revenue from the casinos. That's a possibility I suppose.
